The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.

About Annotator

Annotator brings margin notes to the web. Highlight a passage, add a thought, and it will be there the next time you open the page. Every note also lands in one dashboard, so pulling together sources for an essay, a thesis or a work project takes minutes instead of an afternoon. HOW IT WORKS Select some text and pick a color, or press Alt+Q (Ctrl+Q on a Mac). Alt+W highlights and opens a note straight away. Click any highlight to edit its note or change its color. A short guide with a practice paragraph walks you through the basics after installing. WHAT YOU GET • A side panel (Alt+X) with every highlight on the page in reading order, plus a note for the page as a whole • Colors with meaning: rename them to "Key idea", "Evidence", "Question" or anything else, add up to 60 and give each one a key • Notes with bold, italics, lists and links • Notes that survive edits: if a page changes, just select the new wording and reattach the note • Quote with a link: copy a passage with your note and a link that jumps straight back to it • Export your notes to Markdown or CSV, or save a full JSON backup you can import on another computer • A dashboard with search, filters by color, grouping by site and undo • Works on local files and PDFs saved as web pages, too Annotator stays quiet in web apps like email and chat and switches on for articles, so it never gets in the way. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything is stored in your browser. No account, no tracking, no network requests. Your notes are never sent to the developer or anyone else.
