About 2Fa Live - TOTP Authenticator

2Fa Live is a Chrome extension for managing TOTP-based two-factor authentication codes. Add the accounts that already have 2FA enabled, and read the current verification code right in your browser - without reaching for your phone. It is free, it is simple, and it stays out of your way. -- WHY 2Fa Live? -- You are already at your computer. You type your password, the site asks for a two-factor authentication code, and you stop: find the phone, unlock it, open an authenticator app, scroll to the right account, squint, type six digits before they expire. Fifteen seconds. Ten times a day. 2Fa Live moves that step into the browser you are already using. Open the extension, find the account, copy the code, keep going. The two-factor protection on your accounts does not change - only the detour to your phone disappears. -- MAIN FEATURES -- ✓ Generate TOTP codes - standard time-based one-time passwords, refreshed on a 30-second cycle with a visible countdown so you always know how long a code is still valid ✓ Manage multiple 2FA accounts - every account you have enabled two-factor authentication on, in one list ✓ One-click copy - click an account to copy its current authentication code to the clipboard ✓ Search your accounts - start typing to filter instantly, or press Ctrl+K (⌘K on Mac) in the dashboard ✓ Custom icons and colors - give each account a recognizable avatar so you spot the right one at a glance ✓ Edit account information - rename an account or correct its issuer at any time ✓ Three ways to open it - a toolbar popup for speed, the Chrome side panel to keep codes visible while you work through a login, and a full-tab dashboard when you want to organize everything ✓ Works offline - TOTP codes are calculated from the current time, not fetched from a server ✓ Free to use, with no 2Fa Live account to create ✓ Dark mode, and available in English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Vietnamese and Simplified Chinese -- WHO IS IT FOR? -- Everyday users You have two-step verification switched on for Google, Microsoft, GitHub, Facebook, Discord or any other site that supports TOTP, and you would rather not hunt for your phone every time one of them asks for a code. Developers and IT administrators Hosting panels, VPS dashboards, cloud consoles, Git repositories, CI systems, admin backends. You log in to a lot of systems in a day, and each one wants its own authentication code. SaaS users and account managers You run several workspaces, client accounts or separate work and personal logins. Search and custom icons make it obvious which code belongs to which account. People new to 2FA You enabled two-factor authentication because a site recommended it, and you want an authenticator that does one job clearly instead of burying it under features you will never use. -- HOW IT WORKS -- 1. Add a TOTP account in 2Fa Live. 2. Enter the TOTP secret key the website gave you when you turned on two-factor authentication. 3. 2Fa Live generates the current authentication code and shows the time left before it changes. 4. Use that code when the website asks for two-factor verification. That is the whole workflow. There is nothing to configure beyond the account itself. -- PRIVACY AND SECURITY -- 2Fa Live generates authentication codes in your browser. You do not need to create a 2Fa Live account to add a TOTP account or generate its codes. A note worth making plainly: no tool can make an account impossible to compromise, and 2Fa Live does not claim to. It makes the two-factor authentication your accounts already support faster to use. Treat your TOTP secret keys like passwords, and keep the backup or recovery codes each service offers you somewhere safe. -- FAQ -- What is 2Fa Live? 2Fa Live is a Chrome extension that generates and manages TOTP two-factor authentication codes. You add the accounts that have 2FA enabled, and the extension shows the current verification code for each of them in the browser. What is a TOTP authenticator? TOTP stands for time-based one-time password. A TOTP authenticator turns a secret key, shared once when you enable two-factor authentication, into a short numeric code that changes every 30 seconds. The website runs the same calculation, so both sides arrive at the same code without exchanging anything. What is a 2FA code? A 2FA code is the second piece of proof a site asks for after your password - usually six digits from an authenticator app. It exists so that a stolen password alone is not enough to get into your account. What is the difference between OTP and TOTP? OTP is the general term for a one-time password. TOTP is the specific kind that is derived from the current time, which is what authenticator apps and extensions like 2Fa Live generate. Codes sent by SMS or email are also OTPs, but they are not TOTP. Can I generate TOTP codes in Chrome? Yes. That is exactly what 2Fa Live does. Once an account is added, its authentication code is available from the toolbar popup, the Chrome side panel or the full dashboard. Can I manage multiple 2FA accounts? Yes. There is no fixed limit on how many TOTP accounts you can add. Instant search, custom colors and custom icons are there so the list stays usable as it grows. How do I add a TOTP account? Open 2Fa Live, choose to add an account, and enter the TOTP secret key the website showed you when you enabled two-factor authentication. Sites usually display this key next to the setup QR code, sometimes under a link such as "can't scan the code?". Who should use a browser-based authenticator? Anyone who logs in from a computer often enough that reaching for a phone becomes friction - developers, administrators, support teams, anyone running several accounts. If you almost never log in from a desktop, a phone app may suit you better. Does 2Fa Live replace my password? No. Two-factor authentication is an additional step, not a substitute. You still enter your password first, then the authentication code from 2Fa Live. …
