Another usefull, simple and not invading extension. Thanks for share it!
Yep, it’s very nice.
Very nice! I like it veru much. Can it be easy to add the search engine? like some web chrome ever goes that chrome will automatic record it engine.
Nice one! I only had one problem, while testing:
I marked some random words on a webpage, and when I opened up the context menu, the box above overlapped the menu so I couldn’t see all of the search engines in the menu…could be some markup issue?
Useful! Just like IE8.
Really great extention!!
Sorry if it is a stupid question, but what is the url for YouTube search?
And how can i find search urls for other websites?
Thanks for feedback, guys.

> Can it be easy to add the search engine? like some web chrome ever goes that chrome will automatic record it engine.
- I thought about it. You see, if extension adds searching engines automatically, there will be a lot of them. But I’m not sure that you will use all of them through menu. So, I decided that user will add what he want by himself.

- If the box (that overlapped menu) is flash, it will always overlap html elements (if it has no wmode parameter). But if it is no flash, this could be bug. Give me the link in this case.

- You can surf searching engines added by chrome (into chrome preferences). Also you can search something with your searching engine (for example ‘some string’) and then take url and put ‘%s’ insdead of ‘some string’.
I love this. Very useful! Thanks
@andreyp: Thank you for the explanation. It was much easier with the second advice!
@andreyp, in my opinion more useful would be if you would implement hotkekys (set by users) like in extension Bubble Translate. you mark word, or sentence with some hotkey e.g. crtl and only then triangle shows up. Otherwise this triangle can be annoying.

Thanks. I’ll think about it.
On the one hand it will make sense because it won’t annoy when you don’t want to search. But on the other hand it will be an extra action if you really want to search, and this extra action will annoy.
Great extension love it thanks a lot
make folders and submit to chrome extensions page, please.
in chromium 4.0.270 theres a bug. the new tabs open in popups.
It seems silly that this extension does not use the built in list of search engines within chrome.
This extension is a good idea, but it makes fall Acid Test 3 to 97/100 instead of 100/100… please try to fix this…
It doesn’t operate in address https.
Thanks guys for reporting me.
Some problems are localized and will be fixed soon, some is quite mysterious and difficult.
Anyway, please give me links to the pages where the plugin does not work. It will help me to localize and debug the problem.
Ian: Of course it would be great to use the list of serching engines that chrome collects. But unfortunately chrome is quite close for plugins. It does not allow using a lot of its features including list of searching engines.
man1: It should work. I tried some https pages and it looks fine. Please give me the link.
I worked in https except this link.

ver. 4.0.249.43
I love your extension, really! it changed my surfing experience. But please, add folders and subfolders, so i can make a hierarchy. this would be great.
thx for the work,

and unfortunatly in chrome and chromium >4.0.249 (linux) it still opens popups instead of tabs. this keeps me off updating. i know, it’s not your fault. the chromium devs must have changed something… but i’m sure you are able to fix this!

I’m using the latest Chrome beta build & Context Search 0.8.8. Works great but I have one problem. It looks like your extension stores changes as a cookie. If I clear out my cookies on exiting Chrome I loose any mods I made to Context Search. I guess I can just NOT delete cookies but I like to clean-up after I browse. Any other suggestions.
Subfolders are great idea. I will add posibility working with them. Not right away but
Good work! But Chrome 4.0.249.43 in Windows 7 opens as pop ups. Pls fix if possible.
Yes, this would be incredibly handy except for the fact that it shows the results in a popup, which is irritating because you have to allow the popup, etc. Until the results open in a new tab I’ll keep using my custom search bookmarklets.
This is awesome! Can you please make it so that rarely used search engines can be “hidden” under a sub-category, like in IE8′s Accelerators?
Suggestion: Add an option to the Options page to list search engines based on alphabet, frequent usage.
Thanks!!!
Another option I’d like to see if change the highlight color for selecting a search engine (the grey color is too bland).
Hey,
Thanks for this great extension. Its one of the must have extensions.
One suggestion for you – The size of arrow marked button (which pops out after selecting the text) is somewhat smaller than it should be.It is somewhat irritating. One really have to be careful while navigating to that arrow.
So it would be of greater if you increase the size of that button by some amount. It would make life better for one while using it.
Hope to see more from you.
Keep Rocking \m/
Great extension, given that Google does not allow alternative search engines to appear in Chromium’s “native” context menu! (which is quite ridiculous, by the way)
Two questions though:
1. isn’t it possible for your extension to use the search engines we already saved in Chrome?
It may be a silly question, since you have certainly thought of it already. But, just in case…
and 2. it would be nice if the box opened automatically as soon as the user selects some text! This is how AutoContext add-on for Firefox works. It saves me an extra click. This behaviour could be optional of course, so that every user may decide if they want it (I would)
Thank you!
Love your extension, but I have a small issue with opening it. It’s such a small arrow, yet if you make it bigger it will be annoying. I tried to modify it so it opens/closes when I mouseover/out the little arrow, and it’s sooo much better.
But I couldn;t get it to work completly right (hectic menu behaviour, etc) so, maybe you could help? Do you think you could have a little mouseoverVersion hosted somewhere?
Thanks
Well, the context search plug-in was the main reason why I didn’t wanted to leave firefox. This is a great extension, but it has a long way to go (I think).
It would be great if the search options where in the right click context menu (like the FF extension), and a more automatic (or lazy-user friendly
) way to add engines. I took a while to organize my search bar engines, so it is really a bummer having to do it all over again for the context search extension.
Anyways, this is the extension that convinced me to try to migrate to chrome, I’m looking foward to future updates.
great extension, here are few ideas for improvement:
- open tab in background
- custom favicon
- subfolders
I love this extension for the personalization feature!
If you’re looking for suggestions to improve it, I’d suggest you add some favicons for the search (I prefer favicons than text), and the options to display several context options at once, and to hide the other into the scrolling menu.
A question: Can I use it with bookmarklet javascript code?
I’d like to make a little hack, and to do some actions with the context menu using this extension. Is it possible to mention a javascript code as a link? Or another way to do some actions? If not, it would be great to be able to personalize it with some custom code.
