YouTongue — Hear Any Word

Met a word you've only ever read? Hear how real people actually say it. YouTongue finds moments in YouTube videos where your word or phrase is spoken in natural speech — speeches, briefings, parliamentary debates, science talks — and plays them right where you are reading. Not a text-to-speech voice: real accents, real tempo, real intonation. HOW IT WORKS • Select a word or a phrase (up to 100 characters) on any web page. • Right-click → "Hear “…” on YouTongue", or press Alt+Shift+Y (Option+Shift+Y on Mac). • A small card opens next to the text with clips cued to the moment it is said. Select another word — the card switches without reloading. • Pick an accent — American, British, Australian or New Zealand — right in the card. Your choice is remembered. • Close it with Esc, the × button, or a click anywhere else. • Or click the YouTongue button in the toolbar and type any word or phrase. • Optional: a "Hear" button right at your selection — turn it on in the toolbar popup. • Signed in, save words to folders. With Pro, add a note to a word — a translation or how it sounds — and see it wherever you meet the word again. • With Pro, the card also shows what the word means: part of speech, a guideword, the CEFR level (A1–C2) and an example. Every meaning of the word is one click away on youtongue.me. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No access to your pages in the background. The extension does nothing until you ask it to, and then only on the current tab. • Signed out, only the text you selected is sent to youtongue.me to search for clips. • Signing in is optional. It keeps a history and folders of your words: then the page address, title and the sentence around the word go to your library. Delete any of it, or the whole account, at any time. • No tracking and no ads in the extension. Clips are played with the official YouTube player.
