The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About WebSubtitle – Add Subtitles to Web Videos
WebSubtitle lets you load a subtitle file from your device or search OpenSubtitles, then attach subtitles to an accessible HTML5 video directly in Chrome. Adjust the timing and appearance, fix subtitle sync, or edit supported subtitles in the built-in editor.
When supported by Chrome and the selected language pair, you can also translate an existing subtitle track on your device and add the translation as a new track. The original subtitles remain unchanged.
Key features:
• Add local subtitle files to web videos
• Search and apply subtitles from OpenSubtitles
• Fix subtitle sync, including constant offsets and gradual timing drift
• Adjust subtitle position, text size, and background
• Edit subtitle text and timing and apply changes back to the video
• Translate subtitles on device in supported environments
• Manage multiple videos and subtitle tracks
• Use subtitles with supported embedded videos after granting site access
Privacy:
Local subtitles, content being edited, and subtitle text used for language detection and translation are not sent to WebSubtitle servers or external translation providers. On-device translation uses Chrome’s browser-managed features, and Chrome may prepare the required translation resources. Search information is sent to OpenSubtitles only when you start a search.
Compatibility:
WebSubtitle works with accessible HTML5 videos. Embedded videos may require you to explicitly grant access to the site. DRM-protected content, restricted iframes, proprietary video players, or custom fullscreen implementations may not be supported.
On-device translation availability depends on your Chrome version, device, browser settings, and selected language pair. Machine translation may be inaccurate, so review translated subtitles before using them.
