The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About WatchParty — Watch Together
WatchParty puts your friends beside whatever you're watching. It opens a slim panel on the right side of the page with live camera video and chat, so movie night works even when everyone is in a different city.
Create a room, send the short room code to your friends, and you're watching together. No account, no sign-up, free. Up to six people per room.
WHAT YOU GET
• Camera and mic beside the video — see and hear your friends while the movie plays
• Group chat with profiles: pick an avatar, a name color and a chat badge
• Quick reactions that float up over the video
• Playback sync: press play, pause or skip, and everyone's video follows
• A camera and mic picker with live preview, and a mirrored self view
• A pop-out window if you'd rather keep the party on a second monitor
• The panel opens by itself on popular streaming sites, and one click on the toolbar icon brings it to any other page
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your video, audio and messages travel directly between you and your friends over encrypted peer-to-peer connections. There is no WatchParty server storing your conversations, no account and no analytics. Only a small connection handshake goes through a signaling server — and you can point the extension at your own server from Settings.
GETTING STARTED
1. Open something to watch.
2. Click the WatchParty handle on the right edge of the page, or the toolbar icon.
3. Allow the camera, or skip it — an avatar stands in until you're ready.
4. Create a room and share the code. That's it.
Tip: everyone in the room should turn on the sync button so play and pause stay matched.
