About Watchbear: Watch Party & Watch Together Sync

Start a watch party and watch together in perfect sync, on anything that plays in a browser. Video chat and voice chat are built in. WatchBear is a free watch party extension. Open a video, start a room, share the code, and everyone's playback sits on the same frame. Press play, pause, or skip and the whole room follows. See each other on camera, talk, type, and react in a side panel beside the film. WHAT IT DOES Host a watch party with friends, family, or a long-distance partner. Watch movies together, binge a series, or run a remote movie night. Every player stays on the same second, so nobody has to ask "are you at the same part yet?" Start a room (we call it a Bear Den), share the short code, and people drop in within seconds. VIDEO CHAT, FREE FOR EVERYONE Switch your webcam on and your face appears as a small tile in the panel, beside the conversation and never over the film. Similar extensions charge for this or leave it out. Here it costs nothing. It starts off every time you arrive, so joining never means being seen before you are ready. Audio and picture travel straight between participants, peer to peer, and never pass through our servers. Quality tunes itself as a room fills, so faces never steal bandwidth from the movie. FEATURES Synced playback: play, pause, and seek stay in step for everyone, frame for frame. Video chat: off by default, one click to switch on, and the tiles sit beside the film instead of over it. Voice chat: talk while the film runs. Mute anytime, and indicators show who is speaking. Peer-to-peer calls: sound and picture go directly between the people in the room. Live messages: type in real time beside the film, so the conversation never covers what you are watching. Quick reactions: drop an emoji without typing. Good for jump scares and plot twists. Join by code: share a short code or an invite link. One-click Google sign-in: no second account, no password to remember. Room for the group: up to 50 people, and up to 8 of them on camera and microphone at once. THREE STEPS 1. Install the extension, sign in, and open whatever you want to share. 2. Start a Bear Den and copy the invite link. 3. Send it over. Everyone watches in sync. No credit card, and no setup beyond the extension itself. WHERE IT WORKS Works on YouTube, Vimeo, Netflix, and other sites with a standard player. It finds the main video on whatever page you open, so there is no compatibility list to check before you invite anyone. Netflix gets dedicated handling for its custom player. Everyone still needs their own access to whatever is playing. This syncs playback, it does not send anything to your friends. NO SCREEN SHARING, BY DESIGN Nothing about your screen is broadcast to anyone. Sharing a film over a call compresses it, drops frames, and loses audio alignment, and it eats the host's bandwidth for the whole group. Instead, each person's own player runs at full quality and only the playback position travels over the network. HOW IT DIFFERS Seeing and hearing each other costs nothing. Teleparty and others put calling behind a paid plan. Every feature is on from the first room you open, with nothing held back for later. Any site, rather than a fixed list of services. Nothing is screen shared, so nothing looks blurry. One Google sign-in, no second account to create. A side panel, not an overlay across your film. GOOD FOR People who want to watch together from different places: Long-distance couples on a virtual date night Friends running a remote movie night from different cities Families spread across time zones Study groups working through lectures in sync Anyone who wants company for a rewatch PRIVACY Signing in carries only your name and bear avatar between rooms. Messages are not stored on our servers. Camera and microphone go directly between participants. IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG Camera or microphone blocked: Chrome asks once. If you declined, allow it in Chrome's site settings and try again. Another app is holding the device: close the other call, then switch back on. Your camera switched itself off: quality drops, and the camera can go too, when a machine is struggling, so the film keeps playing. Switch it back on whenever you like. No video found: let the page play once, then reopen the panel. QUESTIONS Q: Does it cost anything? A: No. Hosting a room, joining one, seeing and hearing each other, typing, and reacting are all included, and none of it asks for a card. Invite as many people as you like. Q: Does it have video chat? A: Yes, at no cost. Switch it on from the panel and your face appears next to the film. Q: What is a good free Teleparty alternative? A: This one. It syncs any site with a standard player and includes camera and microphone at no cost, where Teleparty reserves calling for its paid plan. Q: How do I watch videos together with friends online? A: Install it, sign in, open something, start a Bear Den, and share the code. Q: How do I watch Netflix together with friends? A: Open the title, start a Bear Den, and send the code. Everyone plays it on their own subscription, and all of the players sit on the same frame. Q: Is there a Netflix party feature built in? A: No. The service has never shipped one, which is why an extension is needed to hold everyone at the same point in the film. Q: Which sites does it work with? A: YouTube, Vimeo, Netflix, and other pages built on a standard video player. It looks for the main video on whatever page you open rather than checking a list of approved services, so a site nobody has tested still works. Q: How many people can join a watch party? A: Up to 50 in a room, and 8 of those on camera and microphone at once. Quality adapts as more switch on, so the film keeps priority. Q: Is this screen sharing? A: No. Each person plays their own copy at full quality, and only the position is shared. Q: Do my friends need an account? A: They install the extension and sign in with Google, which takes one click.…
