About VoiceLabs AI: Text to Speech, Read Aloud & Voice Cloning Reader
Listen to any web page instead of reading it. VoiceLabs Read Aloud turns the article you are on, or just the text you select, into natural speech in the voices on your own VoiceLabs account, including a clone of your own voice.
Works in Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome.
WHY PEOPLE USE IT
• Listen to a long article while you do something else. Playback keeps going while you scroll, switch tabs or close the popup.
• Hear only the part you care about. Select a passage and read just that.
• Natural AI voices from your VoiceLabs account, not a robotic system voice.
• Use a voice that sounds like you. Clone your voice in the VoiceLabs studio, then have your articles read in it.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Open an article and click the VoiceLabs icon in the toolbar, then choose "Read this page". The extension reads the main text of the page and leaves out menus and footers.
2. Or select some text and choose "Read selection" in the popup, or right-click the selection and choose "Read aloud with VoiceLabs".
3. Long pages are read passage by passage, so the first part starts speaking while the rest is prepared. The popup shows which passage you are on and how far along you are.
4. Pause, resume, skip to the next passage or stop at any time. Very long pages are read in sessions, and the popup tells you when a page is longer than one session.
YOUR VOICES
Read with any voice profile on your VoiceLabs account: a built-in voice, or a voice you cloned in the VoiceLabs studio. Pick one in the extension's settings, or leave it on "Account default" and VoiceLabs chooses. The extension does not clone voices itself; cloning happens in the studio at app.voicelabs.now.
WHAT YOU NEED
• A VoiceLabs account (app.voicelabs.now).
• The VoiceLabs API is part of the Pro plan, and a free trial is available.
• A connection to your account. In the extension's settings choose "Connect with VoiceLabs" and approve the extension in the sign-in window, once per browser profile. Prefer a key you made yourself? Create an API key with the voice:generate permission at app.voicelabs.now/connections and paste it there instead.
• The audio you listen to counts toward your plan's allowance. You can also set a monthly limit on each API key, and the extension tells you when a key has reached it.
Good to know: the extension cannot read pages the browser keeps closed to extensions, such as the browser's own settings pages and the extension stores, and a page made only of images has no text to read.
PRIVACY IN PLAIN WORDS
• It touches a tab only when you ask it to. It uses Chrome's activeTab permission, so it can read the tab you clicked in, at the moment you click. It has no standing access to the sites you visit.
• The text it reads is sent only to app.voicelabs.now, together with your API key, to make the audio.
• Signing in happens in a VoiceLabs window; the extension never sees your password. Your API key is stored in this browser profile only. It is not synced to your other devices.
• No analytics code, no ads, and no tracking of the pages you read. After installation it opens a welcome page on voicelabs.now once, and your browser opens a goodbye page if you remove it; both are used to count installs. If something in the extension breaks, it sends a short error report (the error, the extension's version and your browser, never the page's text or address or your API key) to VoiceLabs' own error tracker. Your data is not sold.
