The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Video Saver
Video Saver is a lightweight, privacy-focused media utility designed to help users download standard fragmented streaming videos (HLS/M3U8 and MPEG-DASH/MPD) and direct media files (MP4, WebM, MKV) for offline playback.
Many modern websites deliver media in small fragmented chunks to optimize bandwidth and buffering. Video Saver detects these stream manifests, retrieves the media segments concurrently, and seamlessly merges them into a single, standard MP4 video file directly on your local device.
KEY FEATURES:
• HLS & DASH Stream Support: Detects, parses, and stitches fragmented M3U8 and MPD video/audio streams into a standard MP4 container.
• Dual-Track Audio/Video Muxing: Automatically combines separate video and audio tracks (e.g., multilingual streams or 1080p DASH renditions) into a unified file.
• Direct Video Capture: Automatically detects standalone video files (MP4, WebM, MKV) embedded in web pages.
• High-Speed Concurrent Downloads: Fetches segments in parallel with automatic retry logic for fast and reliable downloads.
• Native Browser Integration: Leverages Chrome's built-in download manager for safe and transparent file saving.
• 100% Local & Private Processing: All parsing, buffering, and video assembly take place locally on your device via the Origin Private File System (OPFS) and Offscreen Documents. No video data, metadata, or browsing activity is ever tracked, stored remotely, or transmitted to third-party servers.

IMPORTANT POLICY & LEGAL NOTICES:
=======================================================
• YOUTUBE RESTRICTION: In strict compliance with Google Chrome Web Store Developer Policies and YouTube Terms of Service, Video Saver DOES NOT download, access, or support videos from YouTube or any affiliated Google video domains. All requests originating from YouTube are blocked.
• COPYRIGHT & DRM COMPLIANCE: Video Saver does not bypass or circumvent Digital Rights Management (DRM). Encrypted or DRM-protected streams (such as Widevine, FairPlay, or PlayReady) cannot be downloaded. Please respect copyright laws and only download media that you own or have the legal right to access offline.

TRANSPARENCY & PERMISSIONS BREAKDOWN:
=======================================================
To deliver its core functionality under Manifest V3, Video Saver requests the following permissions:
• "webRequest" & host_permissions ("<all_urls>"): Required to detect video stream playlist requests (M3U8/MPD) and retrieve video chunks hosted on various Content Delivery Networks (CDNs).
• "declarativeNetRequest": Required to securely preserve necessary Referer/Origin headers during segment retrieval without interfering with active web page playback.
• "downloads": Required to prompt the user and save the finalized video file to the local storage.
• "offscreen": Required to perform client-side audio/video transmuxing and container packaging in an isolated document without hitting service worker lifecycle or memory limits.
• "unlimitedStorage": Required to buffer and assemble large media chunks locally (via OPFS) during download without running into browser quota restrictions.
• "tabs" & "scripting": Used solely to inspect the active media page and suggest an accurate, sanitized filename for the downloaded video.
• "sidePanel": Enables the optional side panel interface for managing downloads alongside your browsing.
• "storage": Used locally to persist user preferences (such as notification settings).
