About TubeMind: AI Summary, Transcript Search & Notes for YouTube
You know that feeling when you remember someone said something in a video, but you have no idea where? You scrub back and forth, rewatch half of it, and give up. That's why I built TubeMind.
It's a small extension that makes YouTube feel less like a time sink and more like something you can actually learn from.
Find any moment in a video
Press S and type a word. TubeMind looks through the video's transcript and puts a little yellow marker on the progress bar everywhere that word comes up. Hit Enter and you jump straight there. It's basically Ctrl+F for videos.
Get the gist without watching everything
Open the side panel and click "Summarize". You get a short summary, the key points and a timeline you can click through. The best part: it runs on the AI that's already built into Chrome, right on your computer. Nothing gets uploaded, and there's no subscription. (If your computer doesn't support Chrome's AI, you still get the most important moments and topics of the video.)
Take notes while you watch
Press N, type your thought, hit Enter. The video pauses while you write and picks up again when you're done. Your note shows up as a small marker in the video, so you can find it later. Press B for a quick bookmark when you don't want to write anything. You can export everything as Markdown to Notion, Obsidian or wherever you keep your notes.
All your videos in one place
Every video you've taken notes on or summarized ends up in your library. You can even search through the transcripts of saved videos, which is surprisingly handy when you're studying.
Less scrolling, more watching what you came for
If you find yourself falling into the Shorts hole, turn on focus mode. It can hide Shorts, the home feed, recommendations, comments and end screens. You can also set a daily time budget and see how much time you actually spend on YouTube. No judgment, just honest numbers.
Small things that make watching nicer
TubeMind remembers your playback speed for each channel, so podcasts can stay at 1.5× and tutorials at normal speed. Use A and D to go slower or faster (up to 16× if you want), and R to go back to normal. You can also open every video in theater mode and pick a preferred quality.
Your data stays yours
There's no account, no tracking and no analytics. Everything you create stays on your device. TubeMind is free, and to keep it that way it shows one small, clearly marked sponsor tip inside its own panel. It never puts ads on YouTube itself. If you'd rather not use a feature, just switch it off in the settings.
Keyboard shortcuts on YouTube:

TubeMind speaks English, German, French and Italian.
If something doesn't work or you have an idea, I'd love to hear from you. Feedback really helps.
