About Tone Down
Soften the web.
Tone Down turns every website down a notch. Bright white pages become a soft grey, contrast is gently lowered, and photos and videos lose their harsh saturation. Animations, sliding carousels and parallax effects stop. Videos no longer play on their own, and animated GIFs pause until you click them.
It’s made for anyone who finds the modern web too bright, too busy or too loud: people prone to eye strain or headaches, people with sensory sensitivity, or anyone who just wants browsing to feel calmer and less attention-grabbing. Very useful in the evenings and a good replacement for dark mode, which is often too jarring.
Features:
• Three strengths to choose from: Gentle, Calm and Very calm
• Soft warm-grey wash that lowers contrast without the harshness of dark mode
• Calmer photos and video, with an optional “calm all colours” mode
• No animation, no autoplay, paused GIFs
• Optional “a bit calmer after 8pm”
• On everywhere by default; toggle it on/off with Alt+Shift+T
Tone Down collects no data and sends nothing anywhere. Your settings stay on your device.
A Russ+ project.
