The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Telegram Safety & Reading Toolkit
Telegram Safety & Reading Toolkit is a local companion for official Telegram Web. It does not replace Telegram, create a separate sign-in system, or host third-party content.
Key features:
- Local scam-risk alerts for combinations such as login-code requests, impersonation, task-payment scams, guaranteed-profit claims, and deceptive links, with user-controlled false-positive dismissal, optional custom warning phrases, and a trusted-domain list. A trusted domain only suppresses domain-reputation signals; it never suppresses payment, credential, or impersonation signals.
- Privacy shield that can blur messages, media, identities, and optional unsent drafts against shoulder surfing. Blur strength, reveal-on-hover, one-click lock, and 30-second, 1-minute, or 5-minute idle lock are configurable.
- Reading and accessibility controls, including reduced motion and an interface that follows Chrome's English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, or Korean locale.
- Ads and distractions filter, enabled by default and always optional. It locally hides detected Telegram sponsored content and standard ad containers on supported comic pages. It only changes the display of content already loaded in the page; it does not block network requests, inspect advertising traffic, or require broader site access.
- Reviewed public discovery for official and established public groups and channels, sorted with Chrome's interface language first and filterable by language, category, type, and free or paid access. Where public data is available it shows audience size, public content volume, and latest activity. A groups/channels-only search expands common multilingual synonyms locally, reads Telegram global-search rows that expose public member/subscriber information, merges them with matching reviewed listings below, separates sources, and removes duplicates. User-initiated search is not restricted by the built-in catalog's language, popularity, or category thresholds. Live cards always show a locally estimated language plus content-volume and latest-update fields; values Telegram search does not expose are explicitly marked unavailable. Opening a public result first shows a confirmation explaining that Telegram will offer its Join button when needed; only the user can continue and choose whether to join. Account-visible chats open directly. Messages, posts, files, bots, personal accounts, and general web pages are not shown, and nothing is auto-joined. The built-in popular catalog excludes adult, gambling, account-trading, fake-investment, and investment-signal listings.
- Image / long-content reader with automatic whole-page fitting and instant, transition-free page changes for conventional images. Webtoon / long-strip content remains width-fitted and supports free vertical reading by wheel, touchpad, arrow keys, or drag, adjustable 10–300 px/sec auto scroll, 50%–300% zoom, fullscreen, and controls that hide when idle.
- Automatic preview/warm preload, remembered auto-reading defaults, 1–120 second auto turn for paged content, and previous / next chapter plus chapter selection when the source provides compatible controls. Previewing never creates downloads. Only after the user presses and confirms a download action can the extension save the current page, a chapter, or walk through up to 120 chapters. Comic files are organized by comic title, chapter, and page number.
- User-initiated single-media download from the panel or image/video context menu. After selecting one or more Telegram messages, a selection-toolbar action downloads media only from those selected messages, deduplicated and capped at 100 items per action. For poster-only videos it delegates retrieval to Telegram's native “download selected” action, then attempts to organize files by series and episode. It does not scan unselected chats or bypass sign-in, paywalls, DRM, or source permissions.
- Optional video usability controls remember volume and up to 100 playback positions locally. When focus is not in a text field, Space pauses/plays, Left/Right seeks 10 seconds, and F toggles fullscreen.
- A local Watch later list stores only the title, channel, Telegram message link, and bookmark time after the user explicitly saves a video. It stores no video file or thumbnail. It can be searched and filtered by download availability. Videos that Telegram allows saving can be downloaded from the list; protected videos offer only reopen-in-Telegram and remove actions.
- User-triggered JSON export/import backs up an allowlisted subset of local preferences and Watch later metadata. Consent is deliberately excluded and must be granted again on each browser profile.
Prominent data disclosure: to provide its core features, the extension processes Telegram Web message text and links already displayed to the user, image / video URLs, dimensions, and loading state on pages the user actively opens, and local display and reading preferences. This processing stays on the user's device and is not sent to a developer or third-party server. Only after the user presses download does the extension process the current media, media in messages explicitly selected by the user, or pages from the currently opened comic chapter / sequential chapters; it does not bulk-scan unselected chats. When the user explicitly presses the group/channel search button, that query and a few common synonyms generated locally are entered sequentially into the signed-in Telegram Web tab; public result names, types, audience text, peer IDs, and any content-volume or activity text already exposed in the result are processed temporarily in device memory. Result language is estimated locally from the public name and query. These values are neither retained nor sent to the developer. Before any page analysis, the user must read this disclosure in the extension panel and click “Agree and enable”; consent can be withdrawn at any time. The extension does not monitor Telegram's sign-in form or …
