About Subtitle Translator - Translate Video Subtitles on Hover

Stop pausing the show to look up words. Hover any word in the subtitles and see its translation right there, with the whole sentence. Save words and phrases with their sentence, review them as flashcards or export to Anki. Translation runs on your device: free, no account, no tracking. **Hover a word - see its translation instantly.** Translation runs on your device via Chrome's built-in AI (Chrome 138+, desktop): free, private, works offline once the language model is downloaded. **Understand whole phrases, not just words.** The tooltip and the optional dual-subtitle line show a translation of the entire sentence - split subtitle lines are stitched back together first, so the translator sees real sentences. Add your free DeepL API key (500k characters/month) and phrase translation becomes idiom-aware: "dirty pool" stops being about swimming. **Press Alt+E** for an on-device AI explanation of a phrase - idioms, slang, phrasal verbs, explained in your language. **Build your vocabulary.** Click any word to save it with the full sentence as context - click it again to take it back out. Drag across several words to save the whole phrase with its translation - the way idioms and set expressions actually need to be learned. The list itself lives in the toolbar popup: search it, remove single entries, and export it - CSV, Excel, Anki, or a printable PDF, with a Type column separating words from phrases. **More:** - Two modes: hover tooltip or dual subtitles (Alt+S) - Alt+A - save the whole subtitle line as a phrase - Alt+Z - undo the last save or removal - Alt+R - replay the current line; right after a line change - the previous one - Optional: show the translation next to words and phrases you already saved, in small type - Flashcards with spaced repetition, so the words you save actually get learned - Alt+D speaks the word or the line out loud - Optional: rare words get a dotted underline, so you can see what is worth saving - Export to CSV, Excel, Anki or a clean printable PDF - Move your words anywhere: a backup file with review progress, or load words back from a CSV - Light and dark theme, or follow the system - popup, trainer and the subtitles themselves - Pause on hover (optional) - Theme, font size, position, backdrop, subtitle language, target language, buttons corner - all adjustable via the ⚙ on the video - Switch the extension off on any single site with one click, from the toolbar popup - Works in fullscreen - Quiz mode in the trainer: pick the right translation out of four, in either direction - Translate on websites (optional, switch it on in the toolbar popup): select text on any page, see the translation in a small card, pick the source and target language right there, and save it to your cards - Interface in English, Russian or Ukrainian - 39 target languages - everything Chrome's built-in translator handles on-device Works on any site whose player uses an HTML5 `<video>` element with text tracks, and also on players that draw their subtitles as page markup instead. Subtitles are read from the page markup, never from the video stream. No accounts, no tracking, no analytics. Settings and word lists stay in your browser. The only thing that ever leaves your device is a phrase sent to DeepL for translation - a subtitle line, or text you selected on a page and asked to translate - and only if you add your own DeepL API key.
