The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Strata — Browser Storage Inspector
Strata is a developer‑focused storage inspector. Open an HTTP or HTTPS website, click the toolbar icon, and inspect supported browser storage for the selected page. Cookies require persistent site access; allow all sites once to use the cookie inspector across websites. Inspection happens only when you open Strata or invoke its context menu.
What you can inspect, edit, and clear
- Cookies — cookies applicable to the current page URL, including HttpOnly cookies. Inspect name, value, domain, path, Secure / HttpOnly / SameSite flags and expiry. Create, edit and delete cookies. Other cookie paths and embedded third-party partitions are outside this view.
- Local Storage — full key/value inspection with inline JSON formatting.
- Session Storage — same editing experience for per‑tab state.
- Strata Storage — inspect Strata's own chrome.storage.local, sync, and session areas. Browsers do not permit inspecting another extension's storage. Changes in the sync segment may synchronize through your browser account.
- Cache Storage — drill into each named cache, view requests, preview response headers and bounded text/JSON body previews.
- IndexedDB — browse databases → object stores → records. Create JSON-compatible records in existing stores with guidance for inline, compound or generated keys. Edit supported JSON records while preserving their primary keys. Shows up to 250 records per store, with the full record count and a visible limit notice. Non-JSON values are preview-only.
- Storage Buckets (Chromium 122+) — per‑bucket quota, durability, and persistence.
- Shared Storage (Privacy Sandbox, when supported on the page).
Features built for debugging
- Clear site storage — review and confirm clearing current-page cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, Cache Storage, IndexedDB and supported Storage Buckets. Errors are reported. Service workers, the HTTP cache and Shared Storage are outside this action.
- Export as JSON — copy the displayed records to clipboard for diffing against a bug repro.
- Format JSON — inline pretty‑print for any editable value that's valid JSON.
- Live search across keys and values, per tab.
- Bulk select and delete in supported lists, including cache entries and JSON-compatible IndexedDB keys.
- Guided creation — explanations, example values and field-specific errors. New entries do not silently replace existing keys.
- Displayed data estimates — a color-coded estimate from the visible storage records, alongside the browser's own origin quota estimate where available. This is not an exact total of disk storage.
- Right-click → "Review and clear site storage…" opens a confirmation bound to the original tab.
- Clean light and dark themes (follows your system setting).
- Per‑tab accent colors for fast scanning.
- Private-tab inspection when you enable the browser's Allow in incognito setting. Strata's own Local and Sync settings remain browser-shared across normal and private windows.
Privacy & data handling
- Website storage is processed locally. No developer server, analytics, tracking or extension network requests. If you edit Strata's sync storage, your browser may synchronize those changes through its account.
- No remote code. Every asset is packaged with the extension. No CDNs. No eval.
- No account required. Nothing to sign up for.
- Only reads the active tab. Strata inspects storage for the page you're currently viewing when you open the popup, or for a page when you invoke the context menu.
Why the permissions
- cookies — to list, edit, and delete cookies for the current site.
- storage — to inspect and manage Strata's own storage areas (chrome.storage.*).
- scripting + host permissions — to read and write localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB, Cache Storage, and Storage Buckets by injecting a content script into the active tab. These APIs are only accessible from the page's own context.
- activeTab — to inspect the tab you explicitly select by clicking the toolbar icon or context menu. No tabs permission is required.
- contextMenus — to add the right-click "Review and clear site storage…" action.
