The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About SteelFocus
Don’t let websites steal your focus. Build it back with SteelFocus.
SteelFocus is a local-first website blocker and focus companion designed to help you spend your time intentionally. Block distracting destinations, set daily usage limits, create focused work sessions, and add just enough friction to stop impulsive browsing before it takes over.
BLOCK DISTRACTING WEBSITES
Create rules using domains, URLs, keywords, or regular expressions. SteelFocus can block destinations continuously or follow a schedule that fits your workday, study time, or personal routine.
SET DAILY USAGE LIMITS
Not every distracting website needs to be blocked completely. Give selected sites a daily allowance instead. SteelFocus tracks focused usage locally and blocks the site once its daily limit has been reached.
RUN FOCUS SESSIONS
Use built-in work and break timers to structure focused sessions. You can create focus-only rules that activate during a session and remain inactive during your normal browsing.
QUICK CONTROLS
Use the extension popup to:
• Block the current website
• Add a usage limit for the current website
• Start or end a focus session
• Check today’s usage and remaining allowance
• Open the complete Settings dashboard
ADD FRICTION TO IMPULSIVE CHANGES
SteelFocus can protect important actions with an optional password, cooldowns, countdowns, and written justifications. Temporary access can be granted when genuinely necessary without permanently removing a rule.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR EXPERIENCE
• Create global and per-rule schedules
• Edit daily limits for individual websites
• Customize the blocked-page message
• Configure redirects and calls to action
• Import or export your settings
• Choose your preferred reset timezone
• Enable optional focus-phase notifications
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
SteelFocus works locally in your browser.
• No account is required
• No advertising or third-party analytics
• No remote tracking services
• Rules, preferences, and usage counters remain in Chrome’s extension storage
• Local insights are disabled until you explicitly enable them
• Optional History and Top Sites access is requested only when you choose to use local website suggestions
• Full URL paths, query strings, and fragments are not retained in insight records
LOCAL INSIGHTS—ONLY IF YOU WANT THEM
Optionally review blocked attempts, usage activity, focus-session outcomes, and temporary overrides. You control whether these insights are collected, how long they are retained, and when they are deleted.
BUILT FOR INTENTIONAL BROWSING
SteelFocus is not about removing the internet from your life. It is about deciding when and how websites deserve your attention.
Stop letting websites steal your focus.
Strengthen it with SteelFocus.
WHAT'S NEW
0.5.0
- Replace indefinite global disabling with timed pauses of 1–1,440 minutes, requiring a justification, the configured friction countdown, and a password when one is set.
- Keep the pending countdown and active pause in background-owned storage so closing the popup or restarting the service worker preserves them.
- Show countdowns in the popup and a remaining-time badge, with actions to cancel a pending pause or resume blocking early. Blocking resumes automatically when the pause expires.
- Record global pauses separately from site overrides in the override log and local insights.
- Migrate existing rules, settings, and site-override logs. Previously indefinite global-disable states resume blocking on upgrade.
