The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Snipwell – Text Expander
Snipwell is a text expander for Chrome: it turns short shortcuts into full text anywhere you type. Type "sig" and a space, and it becomes your signature. Type "addr" and it becomes your address. It works in Gmail, Google Docs, Discord, comment boxes, forms, and ordinary text fields.
Use it for email templates, canned responses, customer support replies, signatures, addresses, and any text you type again and again. Pay once: no subscription, no account, no cloud.
Everything stays on your computer. There is no account to create, no cloud copy of your snippets, and no analytics. Your snippets are stored in your browser and go nowhere unless you export them yourself. The one time Snipwell contacts a server of its own is when you activate a license: your license key is sent once and a signed license comes back to your device.
WHAT YOU GET
• Plain or rich text snippets, including multi-line ones
• Placeholders for today's date, the time, your clipboard, and where the cursor should land
• Folders and search
• Space, Enter, or Tab as the trigger, or instant expansion with no delimiter
• One Backspace to undo an expansion
• Pause everywhere, or turn Snipwell off for a single site
• A side panel that opens from the toolbar icon or a keyboard shortcut
• Import and export as plain JSON, which is also how you move to another computer
PRIVACY
Snipwell asks for two permissions. Storage saves your snippets and settings on your device. The active tab permission lets the side panel read the current tab's address so the "Off on this site" switch can name the site. If you save a snippet that uses the clipboard placeholder, Chrome asks separately for clipboard access, which is used only at the moment that snippet expands. Snipwell never reads, stores, or sends page content.
PRICING
Snipwell is free to use for 14 days. After that, a one-time purchase keeps it running for good, with all future updates included. There is no subscription. If you decide not to buy, your snippets stay yours: viewing, editing, and export keep working forever.
