The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About SnippetShift — Universal Code Translator
Translate the code in front of you without breaking your reading flow.
SnippetShift detects code blocks on web pages and adds a compact Shift action.
Select a target language, framework, or dialect, then review, compare, copy, or
reuse the result in the same panel. You can also paste code into the toolbar
popup or translate selected code from the context menu.
CORE FEATURES
- 26 built-in language, framework, module, SQL, and shell targets
- Five quality modes: idiomatic, literal, minimal diff, modernize, and migration
- Source-language detection with manual override
- Syntax highlighting and line-by-line diff
- Local history and local result cache
- Input cleanup for copied line numbers, prompts, and invisible characters
- Custom model IDs for providers that release models faster than the extension
- Custom translation presets
- Multi-provider comparison with separate, copyable outputs
BRING YOUR OWN PROVIDER
- OpenAI
- OpenRouter
- Groq
- Google Gemini
Your API key is stored locally in Chrome extension storage. SnippetShift has no
backend, analytics, ads, or telemetry. When AI is required, the extension asks
for consent and sends the selected code directly to the provider you chose.
Compare can send code to up to three configured providers. Connection tests
send a ping and API key. Offline rules and cached results make no AI network request.
PRIVACY AND CONTROL
- No SnippetShift server or account
- Explicit disclosure before the first AI request
- Provider keys never enter the page DOM
- Local controls for cache, history, usage, keys, and consent
- No remote executable code
The launch build includes Founder access to quality modes, custom presets, and
multi-provider comparison. Provider API charges, if any, are paid directly to
the provider.
