The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Slate
Slate records your screen, your voice and your face, and turns the take into a link the second you press stop. No editor to sit through, no export, nothing saved to your computer. You talk, you stop, you paste.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Click the Slate button and press Start recording. Pick a tab, a window or your whole screen.
2. A three second countdown, then you are recording. Your camera sits in a bubble in the corner, and you can drag it anywhere.
3. Press Stop, from the strip on the page, the toolbar, or with Alt+Shift+R. The video's page opens and the link is already on your clipboard. Send it.
The upload runs while you record, so a twenty minute take is ready as fast as a twenty second one. Every recording gets a transcript and a title written for you, and the page shows every link you visited while you talked.
WHAT YOU GET
- Screen, window or tab recording with your microphone and the tab's or your computer's audio
- A camera bubble you can drag, resize and mirror, or hide
- Pause and resume with no gap in the recording, restart a take on the same screen without picking it again, discard without a trace
- A control strip on the left edge of the page that follows you from tab to tab
- Keyboard shortcuts: Alt+Shift+R to start or stop, Alt+Shift+P to pause or resume
- A link that plays anywhere, with comments, reactions and view counts on the page
- Transcripts, chapters and a written summary on paid plans, a searchable library on every plan
WHO IT IS FOR
People who explain things for a living: engineers reviewing code, designers walking through a mockup, founders answering a customer, support answering a ticket. Anyone who has typed four paragraphs where a two minute video would have done.
PRICING
Free forever for one person, with the newest 25 recordings playable. Teams pay $9 a seat a month, or $90 a year. That is half what Loom charges, and it stays half of whatever they charge next.
PRIVACY
Slate records only when you press record, and only what you chose in Chrome's own picker. The recording is uploaded to your Slate account at slatevideo.com and nowhere else. The extension keeps nothing on your computer, reads no pages you are not recording, and collects no analytics. The tabs you visit while recording are listed on the video's page for your viewers, and you can hide any of them.
Slate is made by Metacto. Sign in with the account you use at app.slatevideo.com; if you do not have one, the extension will make you one.
