The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Skip This Job — Ghost Job Detector
Stop applying to jobs that aren't being filled.
Skip This Job adds a ghost-risk score (0–100) to job listings on LinkedIn and Indeed, plus the specific signals behind the score, so you can decide where to spend your time. Free, no account, no paywall.
"Ghost jobs" are postings with no real, active hiring process behind them. In a May 2024 Resume Builder survey of U.S. hiring managers, 40% of companies said they had posted a fake job listing that year. (That figure is the share of companies, not the share of listings, and it is a survey of self-reported behavior.)
HOW IT WORKS
Browse jobs on LinkedIn or Indeed as usual. The extension reads the public listing details on the page, scores them in your browser, and shows a Ghost Risk card on the listing (and a small preview badge on search-result cards). Click the toolbar icon to see the current score and signals.
FOUR RISK BANDS
• 0–34 Worth Applying
• 35–54 Proceed with Caution
• 55–74 Likely a Waste of Time
• 75–100 Skip This Job
WHAT THE SCORE LOOKS AT
• Posting age — older postings score higher risk; very old ones have a minimum score (60+ days, 90+ days, 120+ days)
• "Reposted" / recycled listings
• Applicant volume, and Easy Apply on older listings
• Whether a salary is listed
• Staffing agencies / job boards posting on behalf of an employer
• Description quality — very short or missing descriptions, vague or generic wording, leftover template placeholders
• Seniority mismatch (for example an "entry level" title with senior requirements)
• Hiring contact and employer-response information shown (or missing) on the listing
• "Actively reviewing" and similar engagement indicators
• Applications redirected off-platform; Indeed company rating
• Work-arrangement contradictions (for example remote vs. on-site)
• Employer history: how often similar roles from the same employer are seen reposted, scores from other listings of that employer, and anonymous community reports
• Glassdoor ratings for a limited set of large employers, when available
High-turnover roles (for example barista, warehouse, nursing assistant) are scored more leniently, because frequent reposting is normal there.
HOW THE SCORE IS COMBINED
Each listing gets a score from the signals above, calculated in your browser. Information the page doesn't show is never counted against a listing; it's shown as unknown. If Skip This Job has employer data (listings seen by other users, community reports), that is blended in. Thin employer records carry little weight, and employer data can raise a score more easily than it can lower one. Scores are estimates, not a verdict: a low score does not guarantee a real opening, and a high score does not prove a listing is fake.
COMMUNITY REPORTS (OPTIONAL)
Applied and never heard back? Use "Flag Ghost Job" or "Report Outcome" on the card. Reports are anonymous and help other job seekers.
PRIVACY — WHAT IS AND ISN'T SENT
We collect public job postings, not your data. Skip This Job is not a local-only tool: it contacts skipthisjob.com for the listings you view.
• When you view a listing, the extension sends public listing details to skipthisjob.com: employer name, job title, platform, listing ID and URL, location, how long it has been posted, whether a salary / repost / Easy Apply / engagement indicator is shown, the score the extension calculated, and a short hash of the description (the description text itself is not sent). If you click Apply, that click is also sent.
• It also asks skipthisjob.com for the employer's score, sending the employer name, platform and listing ID.
• Only if you submit a community report, the extension also sends your selected reason or outcome together with a random anonymous ID generated in your browser (used to prevent duplicate reports). It is not linked to your name, email or account.
• Not collected: your name, email, LinkedIn or Indeed login or account details, résumé, or applications. No cookies, analytics or ads. Nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
• Servers: Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting), Cloudflare (DNS/security). IP addresses are used only for short-lived in-memory rate limiting and are not stored in the database.
