About ShomerDNS Blocker

ShomerDNS Blocker checks the site you're about to visit against ShomerDNS's community filter list, and blocks it with a ShomerDNS page if it's already blocked at the DNS level, even when you're not connected to the ShomerDNS VPN. Previously, this extension ("ShomerDNS Checker") only flagged blocked domains as a notice. This update makes it actively block the page. What it does: - Checks the domain of each page you navigate to against ShomerDNS's filter list (the same list used by the ShomerDNS DNS service). - Shows a block page instead of loading the site, if it's on the list. - Works without an account, no sign-in, no VPN connection required. - Fails open: if the check can't complete (offline, server issue), the page loads normally rather than getting stuck. Hide Images and videos Hide Images replaces the pictures and videos on the websites you visit with plain light grey boxes, so you only see the text. Nothing of the original picture shows through, not even a blurred outline. • Click the ShomerDNS icon in your toolbar to turn it on or off at any time. • Pages keep their normal layout, and links still work. Clicking a greyed-out thumbnail still opens the article or video. • Also covers YouTube's thumbnails, video player, and the preview images that appear when you hover over the video's progress bar. Hide images works entirely inside your browser. Nothing about the pages you visit is sent to ShomerDNS or anyone else because of it. That's why the extension asks for permission to access all websites: it needs that access to hide images on them. To use Hide images in private or Incognito windows, allow the extension to run there. The toolbar menu shows you how. What it does NOT do: - It does not block ads or trackers embedded inside otherwise-allowed pages (that requires the full ShomerDNS VPN/DNS filtering). - It does not store your browsing history, see our privacy policy at https://shomerdns.com/privacy for exactly what's collected. ShomerDNS is a free, privacy-first, community-run DNS filtering service. Learn more at https://shomerdns.com
