About Send Later for Gmail™ - Schedule Email Reminders
You wrote the perfect email at 11 PM. But sending it now looks desperate. Or unprofessional. Or it will get buried under the morning flood. You want to send it at 9 AM when your recipient is actually reading email.
Gmail has a built-in schedule send feature, but it is hidden behind a tiny dropdown arrow that most people never notice. And once you schedule, there is no easy way to see all your pending scheduled emails in one place, no reminder when the time arrives, and no way to manage multiple scheduled sends at a glance.
This extension adds a visible "Later" button to every compose window. Set a reminder for any date and time. When the time comes, you get a Chrome notification reminding you to send your draft. Click the notification to jump straight to your drafts folder.
Simple. Visible. No hidden menus. No missed timing.
WHY TIMING YOUR EMAILS MATTERS
When you send an email affects whether it gets read. Studies show emails sent during business hours get significantly higher open rates than those sent late at night or on weekends.
But timing is hard to manage manually:
- You write emails when inspiration strikes, not when the recipient is available. Late night ideas, weekend thoughts, post-meeting follow-ups - they happen on your schedule, not theirs.
- You forget to come back. You save a draft at 11 PM planning to send it at 9 AM. Morning comes, you get busy, and the draft sits there for three days.
- You lose track of pending sends. If you have 5 emails waiting to go out at different times, there is no single view to manage them all.
- Context switching is expensive. Going back to find a draft, re-reading it, and clicking send interrupts whatever you are doing.
This extension solves the "I wrote it now but need to send it later" problem with a simple reminder system.
WHAT THIS EXTENSION DOES
Send Later for Gmail adds a "Later" button next to the Send button in every compose window. Click it, pick a date and time, and the extension schedules a reminder. When the time arrives, you get a Chrome notification. Click it to open your drafts and send.
Here is what you get:
Later Button - A clear, visible button appears in every compose window next to Send. No hidden dropdown. No obscure menu. Just click "Later" and set your reminder.
Date and Time Picker - A clean popover lets you pick any future date and time. Defaults to tomorrow at 9 AM. Validates that the time is in the future.
Chrome Notifications - When the scheduled time arrives, a Chrome notification appears with the email subject and recipient. Click it to jump straight to your Gmail drafts folder.
Compose Badge - After setting a reminder, a badge appears in the compose window showing the scheduled time. Visual confirmation that the reminder is set.
Reminder Panel - A side panel shows all your scheduled reminders in one view. See what is pending, what has fired, and cancel any reminder with one click.
Cancel Anytime - Changed your mind? Open the reminder panel and cancel any scheduled reminder. The alarm is cleared immediately.
Multiple Reminders - Schedule as many reminders as you need. Each one is independent with its own date, time, subject, and recipient.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Install the extension. No sign-in, no setup.
2. Open Gmail and compose an email (or reply/forward).
3. Click the "Later" button next to Send.
4. Pick a date and time in the popover.
5. Click "Set Reminder." A confirmation badge appears.
6. Close the compose window. Gmail saves your draft automatically.
7. When the time arrives, a Chrome notification reminds you to send.
8. Click the notification to open your drafts. Find your email. Hit Send.
Your email, your timing, your control.
WHY REMINDERS INSTEAD OF AUTO-SEND
This extension reminds you to send rather than sending automatically. Here is why that is better:
- You get a chance to re-read before sending. A fresh look at an email written at midnight often catches mistakes, tone issues, or missing context.
- You stay in control. Auto-send means the email goes out whether you changed your mind or not. A reminder lets you decide in the moment.
- No risky permissions. Auto-sending requires deep Gmail API access and OAuth tokens. This extension uses only storage, alarms, and notifications. Minimal permissions, maximum privacy.
- Drafts are editable. Between writing and the reminder time, you can update the draft as many times as you want. The reminder does not care about the content - it just tells you "time to send."
REAL SCENARIOS WHERE THIS HELPS
Professional timing:
You write a proposal email at 10 PM on Sunday. Set a reminder for Monday 9 AM. The email lands in your client's inbox when they are actively checking email, not buried under weekend notifications.
Follow-up cadence:
You sent a pitch on Monday. Set a reminder for Thursday to send a follow-up if you have not heard back. When Thursday comes, the notification pops up and you decide whether to send or wait.
Time zone management:
Your colleague is in Tokyo. You write an email at 3 PM your time. Set a reminder for 7 PM your time (9 AM Tokyo). The email arrives when they start their day.
Weekly reports:
You draft your weekly status report on Thursday afternoon. Set a reminder for Friday 8 AM so it is the first thing your team sees when they start the day.
Cold outreach:
You prepare 10 cold emails on Sunday. Set reminders to send them throughout the week - two on Monday morning, two on Tuesday afternoon, etc. Spread your outreach for better response rates.
Personal reminders:
You write a birthday email to a friend. Set a reminder for their birthday morning. Never miss a birthday email again.
