Schreibly checks your grammar, spelling and style in real time — directly in the field you are writing in, on almost any website. As you type in an email, a document, a form or a comment box, Schreibly underlines issues inline and offers a suggested correction you can accept with a click. No copying text into a separate window. ENGLISH AND GERMAN Schreibly checks American English (en-US) and German (de-DE). Both are treated as first-class: German is not English with a dictionary swapped on top. SPELLING RUNS ON YOUR OWN MACHINE English and German spelling and automatic language detection run inside the extension, from data files shipped with it. An obvious typo is underlined the moment you make it — no round trip, no waiting. Schreibly also works out which of the two languages you are writing in, so you do not have to tell it. WHAT IT CHECKS On every plan, including the free one: - Spelling — typos and misspellings. - Grammar — agreement, tense, case, word order. - Articles and prepositions. - Punctuation. - Capitalisation. Paid plans add four checks that answer a harder question — every word is spelt right, but is it the right word? - Casing. - Context — the right word for what the text is actually about. - Style — a genuinely redundant word, or a broken construction. Never your tone, your register or your sentence length. - Clarity — a sentence that is correct in every word and can still be read two ways. Paid plans also rewrite a whole clause when the fix needs more than one word, and check a corrected sentence again afterwards. REWRITE A PASSAGE Select text and Schreibly rewrites it in the register you choose: formal business, technical, friendly, light, or plain language for readers new to the subject. You can also describe a style in your own words and it appears in the menu next to the built-in ones. This is off until you switch it on. WRITE IN ONE LANGUAGE, SEND IN ANOTHER Press Ctrl+Shift+S (⌘⇧S on a Mac) in any text field, type in the language you think in, and Schreibly writes the message in English or German. It reads Arabic, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish, and works out which one you used — there is nothing to pick. Before you send, it shows you a translation back into your own language, so you can read what you are about to send. Please read the result before you send it. The composer can get a word, a tone or a detail wrong, and it can only work from what you give it. ASK WHY When Schreibly corrects something, ask why: it explains which rule applies and which word in your sentence decides it. You choose the language you read those explanations in — English, German or Arabic — independently of the language you are writing in. YOUR OWN WORDS A surname, a username, an employer, an internal product name: add it to your personal dictionary once and Schreibly stops underlining it, in both languages. YOU DECIDE WHAT IT SEES Password fields and hidden fields are never read at all. Any site on your ignored list is skipped before a single character is read. PRIVACY Your text is sent to the Schreibly backend for one purpose: to run the check you asked for. - It is never stored. Not in our databases, not on disk, not in our logs. It exists only in working memory and is discarded when the field closes or the connection ends; nothing survives a restart of our servers. - It is never used to train, fine-tune or evaluate any model — ours or anyone else's. There is no consent, no setting and no plan that changes this. - It is never used to build a profile of you, and we do not sell it or share it for advertising. - Our operational logs contain no user text, no prompts and no suggestions — only counts, timings, outcomes and identifiers. The text to be analyzed is sent to the company that manages the infrastructure for our AI agents and acts as the "infrastructure operator" under a data processing agreement. The text remains in memory while the request is being processed; it is not written to disk and is deleted immediately after processing is complete.
