The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About ScamAvert
ScamAvert helps you spot deceptive websites, suspicious links, sign-in traps and risky downloads — with clear warnings as you browse.
ScamAvert checks website addresses, links, page behaviour, sign-in forms and downloads for common signs of deception. When something looks suspicious, it explains what it found and helps you decide what to do next.
PROTECTION BUILT INTO YOUR BROWSER
ScamAvert includes 24 local detection rules covering:
• Fake addresses
Lookalike brand names, misleading subdomains and deceptive characters designed to resemble other letters.
• Misleading links
Links that appear to lead somewhere different from their real destination, suspicious redirects and dangerous link schemes.
• Sign-in traps
Suspicious credential forms, authentication-code requests, imitation sign-in windows and deceptive sign-in flows.
• Risky downloads
Programs disguised as documents, fake updates and suspicious remote-access software downloads.
• Copy-and-run tricks
Pages that ask you to paste commands into your computer or interfere with what you copy.
• Fake warnings and pressure tactics
Technical-support scam patterns, browser-locking behaviour, deceptive notification prompts and recovery-phrase requests.
These checks run locally in your browser and do not require a ScamAvert account or the ScamAvert desktop app.
CLEAR WARNINGS, NOT JUST ALERTS
When ScamAvert detects something suspicious, it can:
• Explain the warning directly on the page
• Show findings in the ScamAvert toolbar popup
• Redirect certain high-confidence deceptive addresses to a warning screen
• Stop selected high-confidence risky downloads
• Let you review, dismiss or manage warnings and exceptions
ScamAvert distinguishes between something being suspicious and something being confirmed as fraudulent. An ordinary executable download, for example, is not automatically blocked simply because it is an executable.
MORE TOOLS WHEN YOU SIGN IN
Signing in gives you access to additional ScamAvert services.
Website reputation checks
Check visited domains against ScamAvert’s reputation service when Known Scam Sites protection is enabled.
Check a Link
Paste a suspicious URL, or use the address of your current tab, and ScamAvert can investigate the destination, redirects and domain information without opening the submitted link on your computer.
Ask ScamAvert
Send suspicious messages, email text, links or images to the ScamAvert AI assistant for further analysis.
YOU STAY IN CONTROL
ScamAvert lets you manage protection categories, review findings, create or remove exceptions, manage pending download decisions and clear your local protection history.
Protection history is stored on your computer and records information such as the site origin, detection category, severity, time and outcome — not page text, complete URL paths, query strings or filenames.
WORKS WITH OR WITHOUT THE SCAMAVERT DESKTOP APP
The browser extension works independently.
If you also use ScamAvert for Windows, the extension can communicate with it locally for additional integration.
IMPORTANT
ScamAvert helps identify indicators associated with online scams, but no protection system can detect every scam. A website not being flagged should not automatically be considered safe.
ScamAvert’s download protection analyses download names, addresses and surrounding scam signals. It is not a full file-content malware scanner.
