The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Salesforce Metadata Exporter
π What is Salesforce Metadata Exporter?
Salesforce Metadata Exporter is a lightweight Chrome extension that allows Salesforce developers and technical admins to export Salesforce metadata configuration files directly from a logged-in org into a downloadable ZIP file or push directly to a GitHub repository using the Metadata API.
It is designed for quick audits, reviews, backups of configuration, and development workflows β without needing CLI tools or complex setups.
β What This Extension Does
With a single click, you can export Salesforce metadata such as:
β’ Custom Objects & Fields
β’ Validation Rules & Record Types
β’ Page Layouts & Compact Layouts
β’ Apex Classes & Triggers
β’ Aura & Lightning Web Components (LWC)
β’ Permission Sets & Profiles
β’ Custom Metadata Types
β’ Flows (metadata definitions only)
You can select what to export using category groups, presets, member search, or by importing an existing package.xml file.
π₯ New in v1.2.0 β GitHub Push & Category Management
π GitHub Repository Push
β’ Push exported metadata directly to any GitHub repository and branch you have access to.
β’ Authenticate securely via Personal Access Token (stored locally on your machine).
β’ Choose custom target directory (defaults to current org name) and custom commit messages.
β’ Safe binary and UTF-8 base64 encoding prevents file corruption.
ποΈ Categorized Metadata Grouping
β’ Quick-filter metadata types by functional category: Development, Layouts & UI, Security & Access, Business Logic, System & Admin.
β’ Live counter badges show selected components per category.
β’ Bulk select or clear entire categories in one click.
π Export History & Preset Sharing
β’ Export history drawer tracks recent exports with status and timestamps.
β’ Backup and share selection presets as portable JSON files.
β’ CLI-safe metadata filter hides components unsupported by Salesforce CLI.
π₯ Previous Highlights (v1.1.0)
ποΈ destructiveChanges.xml Generation
β’ Mark individual metadata members for deletion using the trash icon on each row.
β’ A live "destructiveChanges.xml" preview tab shows your deletion manifest in real time.
β’ When you export, the downloaded ZIP automatically contains both package.xml (retrieve) and destructiveChanges.xml (deletion manifest) β no manual file creation needed.
β’ Safety-first design: exporting does NOT delete anything from your org. The manifest only takes effect when the ZIP is deployed using Salesforce CLI, Ant Migration Tool, or Workbench.
β’ A confirmation dialog lists every member marked for deletion before export, so nothing happens by accident.
πΎ Saved Selection Presets
β’ Save your current metadata selections as a named preset with one click.
β’ Load any saved preset to instantly restore types and members.
β’ Delete presets you no longer need.
β’ All presets are stored locally in your browser β nothing leaves your machine.
π Global Member Search
β’ A new "Members" search mode lets you search across all loaded member lists simultaneously β not just metadata type names.
β’ Find any component across your entire selection in real time.
βΉ Stop Export
β’ Cancel a running export at any time using the Stop button β no need to close the extension.
ποΈ Profile & Permission Set Downsizing
β’ Strip unwanted sub-sections from .profile and .permissionset XML files before download (e.g. classAccesses, fieldPermissions, objectPermissions, layoutAssignments, and more).
β’ Each sub-section is independently configurable β keep only what you need.
β’ Reduces download sizes and prevents layout conflicts in deployments.
π₯ Core Features (All Versions)
β’ Upload package.xml β Automatically select metadata types and members from an existing package file.
β’ Paste package.xml β Paste package XML from your clipboard to auto-select types.
β’ Configurable Timeout β Customize the export timeout for large enterprise orgs (default: 30 minutes).
β’ Real-time Progress β View status, elapsed time, and download completion via persistent toast notifications.
β’ Dark / Light Theme β Full dark mode support for extended working sessions.
β’ Reliable Sessions β Auto-detects Salesforce instances and browser session cookies.
π Safe by Design
β’ Metadata only β No business or customer data records are ever accessed or exported.
β’ No credentials stored β Uses your existing active Salesforce browser session.
β’ Local execution β All exports happen locally in your browser; no external servers involved.
β’ Read-only by default β destructiveChanges.xml is just a manifest file; nothing is deleted unless you explicitly deploy it.
β οΈ Important Notes
β’ This extension does NOT export Salesforce data records (Accounts, Contacts, etc.) β metadata configuration only.
β’ destructiveChanges.xml in the exported ZIP only deletes components when you deploy the package to a Salesforce org using a deployment tool.
β’ Salesforce login access is required.
β’ Metadata availability depends on your org permissions.
