The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Reader Assist Extension
Reader Assist makes web pages easier to read.
It splits long words into syllables. Every other syllable is bold. So you can read a long word one piece at a time. This is how reading is often taught in school.
It can also:
• show pages in a dyslexic-friendly font
• highlight the line you are reading
• show just the article, without ads and menus
It is free, and it will stay free. There is no paid version. You don't need an account.
Features
• Syllables in every language written in Latin, Cyrillic or Greek letters. For example English, Spanish, German, Polish, Ukrainian, Greek, Swedish and Norwegian. You don't have to choose. Reader Assist finds the language of each page by itself.
• Vowel-consonant marking. Every other pair of a consonant and a vowel is bold. This helps you sound out words.
• Fonts and spacing. Choose OpenDyslexic or another clear font. Make the text bigger. Add space between letters and words.
• Reading ruler. A coloured band follows your mouse pointer. It highlights the line you are on.
• Reader view. Click the book button in the settings, or press Alt+Shift+R. On a Mac, press Option+Shift+R. Now you see just the article, in one column. Your settings work there too.
• One switch turns everything off. Click it again to turn it all back on.
Who it is for
• People with dyslexia or other reading difficulties
• Children learning to read, and their parents
• Teachers and speech therapists
• People with ADHD, language learners and students
For schools
It works on Chromebooks, Windows, Mac and Linux. IT admins can install it on all school Chromebooks. Use the Google Admin console and this ID: naddallapmanhbjifondopljjbjkhgpp. Students don't need an account. Each student can turn off what they don't need.
How to start
1. Click the puzzle piece next to the address bar.
2. Click the pin next to Reader Assist. Now the icon stays in the toolbar.
3. Click the icon to open the settings.
After you install it, a welcome page and a short video show you how.
Privacy
Your pages are read on your own computer. To split words into syllables, we send single words to our server. We never send sentences or whole pages. Words that were split before are not sent again. The server uses AI (a large language model) to split the words. Usage statistics are anonymous. They never include what you read or which sites you visit. We don't collect your name, email or browsing history. We never sell your data or share it with advertisers.
