About Overlaysmith — Webcam Overlay & Lower Thirds
Put one image on the video you send in browser video calls — a banner, a title, a logo, a lower third, a frame. No account, no cloud, no subscription. Your video goes to your call — and nowhere else.
──────────────────────────────────────────
ONE IMAGE. YOUR VIDEO. NOTHING ELSE.
──────────────────────────────────────────
Overlaysmith combines your camera and your image on your own computer, then hands the result to the call you joined. Participants see your image on your video. Screen sharing is never touched.
0 accounts, sign-ins or email addresses to use it.
0 servers of ours that ever see your camera.
11 call platforms, each tested on a real call with a second participant on another device.
You don't need to be the host. It works on the video you send, so nobody else has to set anything up or allow it — your own call, a client's, or a stage you've been invited onto.
──────────────────────────────────────────
HOW IT WORKS
──────────────────────────────────────────
1. Add an image. Drop in a transparent image, type a quick lower third, or copy a ready-made prompt for the AI image tool you already use. Images are resized and stored on your computer.
2. Join your call. Pick the image from the toolbar icon, which shows your stage — the images you chose for this call, in your order. On most platforms your own tile stays clean. A preview panel shows exactly what participants see — and before the call starts, it lets you check your look on your camera without sending anything. Drag it anywhere on screen; it opens in the same spot next time.
3. Switch any time. Change the image or turn it off while the call is running — from the toolbar icon, or with a keyboard shortcut. No rejoining, no reconnecting. Images added to your library mid-call are available straight away.
──────────────────────────────────────────
THREE WAYS TO MAKE AN OVERLAY
──────────────────────────────────────────
· YOUR OWN IMAGE — Make a 16:9 image with transparency wherever your camera should show through. There's no position setting: the image's own transparency decides where everything lands. PNG, WebP, AVIF or GIF. A solid green background is removed for you. Each import is measured and checked, and safe-zone guides show what survives phone and grid layouts.
· TYPED LOWER THIRD — A title, an optional subtitle and a color. Text color is chosen for contrast automatically, and the size adapts to fit a phone screen. Warns — never blocks — if your text is too long for phones.
· DESCRIBED TO AN AI TOOL — Pick a kind (lower third, sign, side panel or frame) and copy a prompt that tells your AI image tool where things must go to survive the crop. Follow-up lines for when the first try needs adjusting. It's just text you copy: the extension never contacts the tool.
──────────────────────────────────────────
YOUR STAGE, IN YOUR ORDER
──────────────────────────────────────────
A library of images is great until you need the right one mid-sentence. The toolbar popup shows only your stage: the images you picked for this call, in the order you set.
· STAGE AND LIBRARY — Put images on your stage and drag them into order. Everything else waits in your library, sorted and searchable. Find any image from the popup and it's on your video in one click, without joining the stage.
· SAVED STAGES — Save a line-up under a name and load it before the next call like it. Deleting a saved stage never deletes its images.
· KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS — Next image, previous image, and overlay off / back on, without opening anything. They stop at the first and last image instead of wrapping round, and a small number on the toolbar icon shows where you are (pin Overlaysmith to your toolbar to see it). Change the keys in the browser's shortcut settings.
· ONE SWITCH FOR VEILS — Veil your whole stage, or your whole library, in one click. Veiled versions stay with their originals. One switch in the popup puts every image on your stage into its veiled version, and back.
──────────────────────────────────────────
A VEIL FOR YOUR ROOM
──────────────────────────────────────────
Background blur isn't always an option: it takes processing power, and on some platforms it slows your video or covers your image. Add a veil to any image in your library instead — a see-through layer over the sides of your video that fades out what's behind you, while the centre, where you sit, stays clear.
· White or dark, soft or strong. Your original is kept, and the veiled version stays with it.
· Veil one image, or your whole stage or library in one click. Running it again only fills the gaps.
· Costs nothing extra during the call: no tracking, no added processing.
· It fades detail rather than blurring it, and it doesn't follow you — lean or gesture to the side and you go under it too.
──────────────────────────────────────────
WHAT IT DELIBERATELY DOESN'T DO
──────────────────────────────────────────
· No account — install it and use it.
· No cloud — your camera is processed on your computer and goes nowhere except into your call.
· No recording — it doesn't capture, save or send your video anywhere.
· No AI in the extension — nothing on your video is generated or analysed.
· No screen-share overlay — shared screens are never touched.
· No subscription — free, or $1.99 once to remove the mark.

WHERE IT WORKS
──────────────────────────────────────────
Eleven browser video-call platforms, each tested on a real call with a second participant on another device, and added only once it passed. The full list, with a note for each platform, is at overlaysmith.com/#platforms
One difference to know: on Zoom's web client, your own tile shows the image mirrored (turning off its "Mirror my video" setting fixes that), and its blur and virtual backgrounds cover the image. Participants see it the right way round.
Works in Chrome on a desktop or laptop. Not supported: desktop meeting apps, and phone browsers, which don't run extensions. …
