Notes Wrangler

Notes Wrangler is a local notes extension for Chrome that keeps your notes organised by website. It opens a persistent side panel, files each note under its associated site and filters notes to the domain of your active tab. Keep research, comparisons and to-dos with the pages they belong to, without mixing everything into one endless notebook. Whether you compare prices across shops, track settings across admin panels or collect notes about client websites, Notes Wrangler keeps each note where it belongs. ## Per-Site Notes in the Browser Side Panel Notes Wrangler maintains a separate note list for each site in the Chrome Side Panel. The panel opens beside the page you are viewing and stays open as you browse. - Site-Focused by Default: Automatically filters notes to the domain of the active tab. - All Sites View: Switch between the current site's notes and all notes, with a live count in the header. - Persistent While You Browse: Keeps the panel open as you navigate, with a design that complements the page beside it. - Text-Preserving Editing: Uses a native textarea to preserve line breaks, pasted content and spellcheck. - Search Titles and Text: Searches note titles and bodies case-insensitively, with previews that jump to the first matching text within a note. - Pin, Share Across Sites and Lock: Pin notes to the top, make them visible across all sites or lock them against editing. Install Notes Wrangler and save the sync key displayed during first run. This key is your only sync credential. 2. Click the toolbar icon to open the side panel beside any website. 3. Click the new note button, enter a title and write your note in the panel. 4. Notes are automatically filed under the active tab's site. Pinned notes appear first. 5. Browse other tabs and the panel automatically follows, displaying notes for the current site. ## Interface and Controls - Header: Displays the current site and its note count or the total count when viewing all sites. - Toolbar: Provides search, the site-to-all toggle, trash, a new note button and settings. - Note Rows: Display the title, text preview, pin status, domain and live word count. - Row Actions: Provide compact icon buttons for pinning, locking, showing a note everywhere and moving it to the trash. Tooltips explain each action. - Editor: Includes a title field and a spellchecked body. The Save button becomes available only when a title exists. - Show Everywhere: A single editor control makes a note visible across all sites. When disabled, the note is associated with the current site. - Trash: Groups restore and permanent-delete actions in one column and displays the 30-day retention policy. - Confirmation Dialogs: Uses themed dialogs to confirm destructive actions instead of browser alerts. - Notifications: Displays toast messages confirming outcomes, including sync completion and note deletion. ## Sync Sync is a premium annual feature that transfers notes between your own devices. - Key-Based Access: A sync key is generated locally during first run. You must acknowledge and save it before the editor unlocks. - Device Access: Any device with the key becomes a full member of the workspace. Store the key securely. - Grace Period: A 14-day grace period follows subscription expiry. After that, sync, export and import are locked, but local notes remain accessible. - Version-Aware Sync: Notes include per-note version and device metadata. Sync transfers changes rather than blindly overwriting the local cache. ## Connectors - Notion: Pushes each live note as a separate page beneath a Notion parent page, using an internal integration token you create. - Obsidian: Writes each live note into your vault through the Advanced URI plugin, opening one writing tab per note. - Joplin: Creates each live note in Joplin through its local Web Clipper API. ## Permissions Explained - storage: Saves notes, settings, the sync key, and subscription entitlement locally on your computer. Sync transfers notes only between your own devices. - tabs: Reads the active tab's URL so notes can be filed under the correct site and the panel can follow tab switches. - sidePanel: Hosts the Notes Wrangler interface in Chrome's browser side panel. - alarms: Schedules sync while the browser is open and manages the 30-day trash purge. ## Local Storage and Page Access Notes Wrangler runs exclusively in the side panel and reads the active tab's URL. - It does not inject scripts into the pages you visit. - It cannot read or modify page content. - Sync sends only the notes you create to the sync endpoint, never webpage data. ## Privacy First - Notes are stored in your browser profile and are not sent to external servers unless you enable sync or use a connector. - Sync transfers only note changes over HTTPS between devices paired with the same key. - No account, analytics or tracking of browsed pages is required. - Deleted notes remain in the trash for 30 days before permanent removal. - Connector operations send only your note content to the selected service: Notion, Obsidian or Joplin.
