The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Newton Browser
Newton Browser is the browser half of an open, agent-agnostic browser-control tool. It connects to a small MCP host running locally on your computer so an AI agent can operate real Chrome tabs through an MCP-compatible client.
Local browser control
- Works with MCP-compatible agent harnesses rather than requiring a specific AI client.
- Supports multiple independent agent sessions in parallel.
- Uses compact accessibility observations to reduce token usage.
- Creates and groups agent-owned tabs by default.
- Supports explicitly requested current-tab and incognito sessions.
Local-first operation
- The extension communicates only with a host bound to 127.0.0.1.
- Newton Browser has no hosted service, account system, telemetry, analytics, or advertising.
- Every session is restricted to explicitly granted HTTP or HTTPS origins.
- It does not inspect saved passwords, cookies, browser storage, browsing-history databases, or browser profile files.
Safety controls
- Credentials, one-time codes, payment fields, and government identification fields are blocked before input.
- Likely secrets and sensitive structured values are redacted from observations.
- Page content is treated as untrusted data, never as authorization or agent instructions.
- Public-site work can use an isolated incognito session when the user enables Chrome's incognito permission.
