About newtab01: bookmark-driven new tab page

newtab01 ⚡ is a lightweight and clean Chrome new tab extension designed around the three core needs when opening a new tab: bookmark management, productivity, and a focused, uncluttered interface 🧘. It replaces Chrome's default new tab with a multi-column bookmark dashboard 📂. Folders support drag-and-drop and free arrangement; all links inside a single folder can be batch-opened as Chrome native tab groups, displayed side-by-side in split view, or all opened as new tabs at once. Press Command / Ctrl + K to launch fuzzy search and quickly locate any bookmark 🔍. 12 built-in themes, plus unlimited custom themes from tweakcn can be imported by pasting a link 🎨. ✨ Core Highlights 📑 Multi-column Bookmark Dashboard All folders are displayed in an evenly-divided multi-column layout Supports dragging folders within the same column or across columns Drag to the column edge to add a new column Special folders like bookmarks bar, top sites, recently closed, and apps can be placed freely 🚀 Folder Batch Operations Open All: open all links inside the folder as separate new tabs Group Open: bundle them as a browser-native tab group Split Open: display the entire folder as a 2-column / 3-column / 2×4 grid iframe split view 🔎 Bookmark Fuzzy Search (Command / Ctrl + K) Press the shortcut to invoke the input box, type a keyword and press Enter to search Matches both bookmark titles and URLs Use up/down arrow keys to switch between search results; press Enter to open the corresponding page If no result is selected and you press Enter, the keyword will go to the default search engine 🖼️ Toolbar Popup Split Feature Click the browser toolbar icon to bring up the action panel The panel is divided into "Bookmarks" and "Open Tabs" categories Pick any 2–4 links and choose a split layout (horizontal 2-column / vertical 2-column / 3-column horizontal / 2×2 four-grid) Automatically creates a new tab and uses iframe to display multiple pages side by side 🎨 Themes & Personalization 12 high-quality built-in themes sourced from tweakcn Unlimited custom theme import: paste a tweakcn theme link or :root {...} style code into the custom themes panel, the extension validates and enables it with one click Independent dark mode toggle (follow system / light / dark): the theme list shows only one entry, dark style is auto-applied Per-theme independent appearance config: font, font size, font weight, 5-color palette, shadow blur, and link corner radius can be customized separately for each theme's light/dark mode Dedicated style code: write a custom CSS snippet for a specific theme + light/dark mode to override styles Supports 37 languages 🌐: English, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, French, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Russian, Korean, and more — switch languages and the interface refreshes in real time without reloading 🔒 Privacy-First Design No data analytics, no user behavior collection, no third-party developer tools No injected page scripts, no remote code loading All configurations are stored locally or synced to Chrome cloud, never uploaded to any external server 🌱 Open Source Project This project is licensed under the MIT open source license, full source code is publicly available on GitHub: https://github.com/lingyired/newtab01 Project inspired by Humble New Tab Page developed by ibillingsley ## [1.1.2] - 2026-06-29 - Folder management: removing built-in folders via right-click takes effect immediately; bookmarks bar and other bookmark folders can be hidden; apps entry supports right-click removal. - Lock columns: folders can still be taken out of columns; dragging to create a new column shows a prompt when columns are locked. - Empty page: shows guidance info and a "Show bookmarks bar" button when all folders are closed. - Font settings: only global settings are kept; fixed the issue where the undo button wouldn't disappear. ## [1.2.1] - 2026-07-06 1. Full i18n multi-language support (37 languages) 2. Optimized RTL UI layout 3. Remember tab group color and name; subsequent opens reuse previous settings 4. Fixed some drag-and-drop bugs 5. Fixed errors caused by missing target bookmarks during import ## [1.3.2] - 2026-07-29 1. Fix abnormal dragging issue of directories. 2. Resolve broken click navigation for search results ## [1.3.3] - 2026-08-28 1. Fix: Topbar light/dark toggle now re-syncs text and link colors
