Motivation Counter

This extension replaces your new tab page with a real-time counter designed to keep you mindful of time. Choose from three display modes: - Age counter — see exactly how long you have been alive, updated in real time with millisecond precision - Until end of year — a countdown to December 31, showing how much of the year remains - Until date — a countdown to any date you choose, and optionally to a specific time of day, so a deadline at 6:30 PM counts down to 6:30 PM rather than to midnight Both the countdown target and your date of birth accept an optional time. Leave it off and everything behaves as before; switch on "Set time" when the hour matters. Every new tab also shows a daily quote from a curated collection of over 1500 quotes. A new quote appears each day and stays consistent throughout the day. The quote feature can be turned off in settings. Search the web right from your new tab: - Optional search bar with a choice of popular search engines - Choose to open results in the current tab (like the default Chrome new tab) or in a new tab - The search bar is off by default — enable it in settings whenever you want it Make it yours: - Six restrained color palettes — three light (Classic, Warm Paper, Cool Mist) and three dark (Classic, Midnight, Graphite) — or follow the system theme automatically - Three font presets — Sans, Serif, and Mono - Three counter sizes — small, medium, or large All settings are accessible via the gear icon in the bottom-right corner, organized into two tabs: - Counter — display mode, target date, date of birth, daily quote, search bar with engine selection, update tips - Appearance — counter size, theme, font The settings panel also shows a small running tally of how many new tabs you have opened with the extension — a quiet nudge that the time really is adding up. After each meaningful update, a small dismissible tip appears next to the gear icon so you know what is new. You can turn these tips off in settings. Privacy: Your birth date and preferences are stored only on your device using browser local storage. No data is sent to external servers or third parties. The extension requires no special permissions and works completely offline. Technical details: Built with Manifest V3 for modern Chrome browsers. The extension is lightweight and works fully offline — no external requests, no network calls, no tracking. Web searches simply navigate your browser to the chosen search engine; no traffic is intercepted or relayed by the extension. This is an independent implementation inspired by Alex MacCaw's original 2013 extension concept, rewritten for current web standards and expanded with new counter modes.
