About Miru

Miru โ€” a mindful way to browse the sites that pull you in. You open YouTube to check one thing. Forty minutes later you're not sure how you got here. Miru doesn't fight that with blocklists and willpower โ€” it just asks you to pause for a breath first, then gives you a quieter version of the site to land in. PICK HOW MIRU MEETS YOU AT EACH SITE YOU OPEN ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Breathe A short guided breath before the page loads. Nothing is blocked. You just get a moment to notice what you're doing before you do it, then choose: go on, or close the tab. ๐ŸŒ™ Calm The breath, plus a stripped-down version of the site itself. On YouTube, everything becomes text โ€” no thumbnails, no recommended videos, no comments, no Shorts โ€” while search and the video you're actually watching still work fine. On Instagram, the feed, Reels, and Explore go quiet, but Stories, DMs, and profiles stay usable. After the breath, a dial asks how long you mean to stay. It opens at zero every time, so the answer is a decision rather than a habit. The last minute turns grayscale, then another breath asks again โ€” and if you come back later the same day, it quietly tells you how long you've already named there. ALSO IN THE EXTENSION - Looking back โ€” today's time by site, and what you asked for at a calmed site's door against what the day actually took - Toolbar focus sessions you can start anytime - A gentle return โ€” a breath on a steady rhythm as you browse, which stands aside for fullscreen video and for live calls and recordings - Night hours that turn the entire web grayscale, so late-night browsing loses some of its pull - A Research section listing the studies Miru's design is built on, with links YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS Miru doesn't ask for an account, doesn't run analytics, and nothing you do ever leaves your device. It's fully open source under GPL-3.0, so you don't have to take our word for any of that โ€” you can read the code yourself: Source code: https://github.com/abb-i/miru Impressum / Legal notice: https://github.com/abb-i/miru/blob/main/IMPRESSUM.md
