The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About MetricWeb
Feet, miles, pounds and Fahrenheit, turned into Metric while the video plays.
You are watching something interesting and the presenter says "about eight hundred and eighty feet". You either let it wash over you or you stop the video and go looking for a calculator. MetricWeb gives you a third option: press the button under the player and the Metric figure appears on screen the moment the words are spoken.
HOW IT WORKS
Click the MetricWeb button beneath the YouTube player. MetricWeb listens to the next 4 minutes of the video, picks out the measurements in what is said, and shows each one as a caption over the picture at the point it comes up. Click again to carry on into the next 4 minutes. Nothing else changes about the video: no dubbing, no rewriting of the subtitles, just the figure you were missing, when you need it.
BUILT FOR READING IN PASSING
Conversions are rounded to 2 significant digits, because a caption is there to be glanced at, not studied. 4 Feet becomes 1.2 Meters. 420 Feet becomes 130 Meters. Where the spoken figure was itself loose - "about six foot two", "somewhere between forty and fifty miles" - the conversion carries a ~ so you can see the precision it deserves.

Light Years to Kilometers, Storeys to Meters, and rates of every kind - Feet per Minute, Gallons per Day, Dollars per Ounce
IT FOLLOWS HOW PEOPLE ACTUALLY SPEAK
Measurements are rarely delivered as a tidy number followed by a unit, so MetricWeb reads the sentence around them:
Ranges - "between forty and fifty feet", "two hundred to two hundred and seventy five million gallons a day"
Compounds - "six foot two", "eleven stone four"
Dimensions - "a twelve by sixteen foot room"
Rates - "sixty miles an hour", "thirty miles to the gallon", "twenty dollars per ounce"
Loose quantities - "a couple of miles", "several hundred pounds"
It is just as careful about what is not a measurement. A pound can be money, a story can be a tale rather than a floor, a stone can be a rock, and a light year can be a figure of speech. Those are left where they are.
