Meet Sidekick — Captions & Notes

Stay in the conversation. Keep the next steps. Meet Sidekick saves Google Meet’s live captions as a transcript with speaker names and timestamps. Follow the conversation in a floating panel, highlight important moments, add private notes, and turn your saved transcript into useful meeting notes and follow-ups through a simple copy-and-paste workflow. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Follow a live transcript inside Google Meet with a movable, resizable overlay. • Use Sidekick-only mode for a cleaner view: Meet captions remain enabled as the text source while their recognized native display is hidden. • Start, pause, resume, and stop capture. Optional automatic start is available in Settings. • Save the speaker labels and timestamps available from Meet. • Optionally capture in-call chat messages with sender labels. • Highlight important passages and add private notes. • Search saved meetings, favorite useful conversations, rename meetings, and correct captions or speaker labels after capture stops. • Filter transcript entries by text, speaker, captions, chat, notes, or highlights. • Track action items with an owner, due date, and completion checkbox. • Copy a dedicated action-item prompt for ChatGPT, then review and import its JSON suggestions into the selected meeting. • Add your booking link and email signature to follow-up email prompts. • Copy transcripts with prompts for meeting minutes, action items, follow-up emails, or internal handoffs. • Export transcripts as TXT, Markdown, or JSON. • Export and restore local JSON meeting backups. • Choose light, dark, or system appearance for saved meetings and adjust the live transcript text size. A SIMPLE COPY-AND-PASTE WORKFLOW Choose a copy format, paste the text into ChatGPT, review the result, and share it yourself. For action items, bring ChatGPT’s JSON file or response back into Sidekick, review the suggestions, and select the actions you want to save. Meet Sidekick does not automatically submit meeting content to an AI service, generate AI summaries, or send emails. No paid transcription API or AI API key is required. Other services’ plans and usage limits still apply. PERSONALIZED FOLLOW-UPS Save your own HTTPS booking link and plain-text email signature in Settings. Follow-up email prompts can include your signature and, when enabled, an invitation to book another meeting using your link. LOCAL STORAGE AND OPTIONAL SIGN-IN Saved transcripts, captured chat, notes, action items, meeting metadata, and preferences stay in your current Chrome profile unless you copy, export, or share them. The extension has no developer-operated transcript server, ads, or analytics. Optional Google sign-in displays your basic account identity. It is not required for capture and does not provide cloud backup, cross-device sync, or separate access controls for saved meetings. BEFORE YOUR FIRST MEETING Google Meet captions must remain enabled. Meet Sidekick saves the text Meet displays; it does not record audio or video. Capture begins when you start it and cannot recover earlier speech. Optional chat capture requires Meet’s in-call chat panel to remain open. Messages already visible when capture starts or resumes, messages present when chat is reopened, and messages sent while the panel is closed may be skipped. Captions, speaker labels, and AI suggestions can contain errors. Review the results before relying on or sharing them. Changes to Google Meet’s layout can affect capture or caption hiding. Inform participants and obtain any required permission before saving their conversation. Export important transcripts before deleting data or uninstalling. New in Meet Sidekick 0.4.0: • Copy a dedicated ChatGPT action-item prompt. • Import action-item JSON, review suggestions, and choose which actions to save. • Preserve existing tasks and skip matching duplicate imports. • Add your booking link and email signature to follow-up email prompts. New in Meet Sidekick 0.4.7: • Captions are appropriately hid while capturing the transcript. • The minimized window is now movable. Includes local transcript search, favorites, optional Meet chat capture, action tracking, themes, and JSON meeting backups. No new permissions or Google access scopes.
