The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About MED-X
Make X a less miserable place to exist.
MED-X filters your timeline the way you would if you had the patience: by
language, by country flags in display names, by profile location, by checkmark
type, by engagement bait, by duplicate replies, and by the accounts that exist
only to shovel content at you. Everything runs on your own machine. There is no
MED-X server for anything to be sent to.
Every hidden post collapses to a small bar saying why, which you can click to
read it anyway, or whitelist that account. Prefer them gone
entirely? Switch any section to remove instead, individually.
WHAT IT FILTERS
Languages — hide posts in languages you don't read, using the language X itself
records rather than guessing from the text. Short posts get a second check
before anything is hidden.
Flags and country names — hide posts whose display name carries a flag emoji or
a country name. Choose which countries, or all of them.
Profile location — hide posts from accounts whose profile says they're
somewhere you'd rather not read. Optionally shows X's own "Account based in"
country on profiles and hover cards, which X keeps two clicks away.
Account types — hide blue checks, business or government accounts, or X's
parody, commentary, fan and automated labels. Can be limited to replies only,
so you still see the people you follow, or to replies under posts with more
than a number of likes you set, which is where the reply bots gather. Replies
from accounts you follow, and replies inside a person's own thread, can be
kept.
Account red flags — a scored check for the shape of a throwaway account: brand
new, posting hundreds of times a day, follower and following counts suspiciously
equal, no bio, no profile picture, a numeric handle, a reply that is a single
word. You choose the weights and the threshold, and you can watch the scores
before you let it hide anything.
Engagement bait — scores posts for reply bait, rage bait, follow farming,
listicles, shouting, emoji walls and the rest. Again, scored and adjustable
rather than a black box.
Duplicate replies — catches accounts reposting each other's replies in a
thread, including reworded and paraphrased copies.
Self-promotion — hide the thread author's reply right under their own post
when it's a plug: a link to their own thing, a request for follows, likes or
reposts, or a quote of another of their own posts.
Shovel accounts — hide accounts whose name is built from "daily", "memes",
"clips", "news", "updates", and similar.
Posting app — X stopped showing which app a post came from, but still sends it.
Hide posts made by scheduling and marketing software.
Videos — hide posts whose video is short, or vertical.
Timeline clutter — remove the sidebar panels, the "what's happening" box, the
Grok button on posts, and individual items from the left sidebar.
WHAT IT DOES BESIDES HIDING
Post highlighter — tint posts containing words you care about, in a color per
term, so the things you're watching for stand out instead of scrolling past.
Muted accounts and posts — mute an account, or a single post along with every post quoting it, for a week or however long you like, picked right from the post’s menu. It comes back on its own.
Video player — a horizontal volume slider with the level shown as a number, in
place of X's pop-up one. Set the volume and the playback speed every video
starts at, and play videos at full quality from the start instead of a blurry
first few seconds.
Pictures and videos — expand and fullscreen buttons on the media in posts, with
fullscreen showing a picture at full quality rather than the timeline's small
copy. Alt + scroll zooms in, in fullscreen and in X's viewer, and Alt + drag
moves around. Posts with several pictures can be laid out as a grid, so you
see them all at once.
Backgrounds — put your own picture or video behind the timeline, or a color or gradient. Use two pictures, one either side of the posts, and give each a pool to rotate through with a fade. Size, place, mirror and dim each one. A shaded backdrop behind the posts keeps them readable, and can blend in the pictures' colors from either side.
Settings without leaving X — a MED-X button in X's sidebar opens your settings over the page, which you can also dock to either side of the screen. Save them to a file and load them in another browser or on another computer. A changelog marks what's new after each update.
PRIVACY
No accounts, no servers, no analytics, no tracking. Your settings live in your browser, and follow you through Chrome's own sync if you use it. Background pictures stay in your browser too, and are never uploaded anywhere. The extension reads the data X already sends to your own browser to decide what to hide. The only requests it makes itself go to X: one to look up an account's country, if you switch that on, and one to load a picture at full size.
