About Math Input for Google Forms
Write mathematical expressions directly in Google Forms with a visual math editor.
Math Input for Google Forms helps students enter mathematical answers and helps teachers include math in supported question fields—without copying expressions from a separate equation tool.
How it works
A small math button appears beside supported Google Forms fields. Click it to open a visual editor, build an expression using the keyboard or symbol buttons, then click Insert.
Students can enter and edit mathematical answers in supported short-answer and paragraph fields.
Teachers can type ordinary question text, insert a math expression, and continue typing afterward. Supported question fields can contain multiple math expressions alongside ordinary text.
The extension also previews or renders supported math formats while editing forms, working with answer keys, reviewing responses, and viewing correct-answer summaries.
Features
• Visual math editor powered by MathQuill
• No LaTeX knowledge required for basic use
• Symbol library covering Basic, Greek, Calculus, Sets & Logic, and Advanced symbols
• Multi-line math input for more complex expressions
• Text inside math expressions for labels, words, and explanations
• Mixed ordinary text and math tags in supported question fields
• Click-to-edit rendered mathematical answers
• Typing shortcuts such as root, squareroot, cuberoot, +-, and -+
• Spacebar navigation out of supported exponent positions
• LaTeX preview and copying
• Recent expressions and saved editor drafts for convenience
• Fast math rendering powered by KaTeX
• Support for the extension’s [math]...[/math] format
• Support for legacy math.local links
• Rendering of supported EquatIO/Texthelp math URLs in supported Google Forms views
Compatibility
Each person who wants to use the math editor or see extension-rendered math needs the extension installed and enabled.
Google Forms does not natively render the extension’s math tags. Without the extension, those tags may appear as plain text.
Privacy
Math editing and rendering happen locally in your browser using bundled libraries. The extension does not send expressions to a separate math-processing service and contains no analytics or advertising tracking.
Chrome local storage remembers recent expressions and your last editor draft.
Text and math inserted into Google Forms are handled by Google Forms through its normal saving and submission process.
Permissions
• Storage — remembers recent expressions and editor drafts locally
• Active tab — supports inserting math through the extension toolbar on the active Google Forms tab
• docs.google.com access — allows the extension to display math tools and preview or render supported math within Google Forms
