The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Markdown Table Generator
Markdown Table Generator turns rows and columns into clean markdown inside a small window that sits next to whatever you are writing. Fill the grid, press copy, paste the block into your file. Nothing to remember, nothing to install beside the browser. 📊
Three steps and the job is done:
1. Open the popup and type into the grid, or paste data you already have.
2. Choose alignment for every column and switch the header row on or off.
3. Press copy and drop the markdown table into your document.
Where the content can come from:
➤ Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets — a copied range arrives as a tsv file in the clipboard and lands in the grid with columns intact
➤ plain csv text, pasted as is: the built-in csv converter splits quoted fields instead of breaking them
➤ a notion database view, copied column by column
➤ an existing block — paste it back and the markdown table formatter rebuilds every cell, so old blocks stay editable
➤ a live page: press Grab and pick any table the site renders
Alignment is where most hand-written rows fall apart, so the generator handles it in one click:
1️⃣ left, the default, writes the plain dashes
2️⃣ centre writes a colon on both sides
3️⃣ right writes the trailing colon
The result respects the markdown table syntax that GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket read, so a github markdown table renders on the first try. 🎯
Inside the editor:
- add or remove a row and a column with one button, no dialogs
- move a column left or right when the order turns out wrong
- Tab and Enter walk the data grid the way a spreadsheet does
- the header row switch decides whether the first line is a heading or plain data
- a draft stays in the popup until you clear it, so a closed window costs nothing
The generator keeps two shapes of output, switchable at any moment:
▸ padded — a text formatter pass spaces every cell so the raw block stays readable in any md editor
▸ compact — the shortest pipe delimited form for files where diffs matter
The preview under the editor is live: it shows the markdown table generator output as text and as a rendered block at the same time, and it doubles as a quick csv viewer for whatever you just pasted. 👀
Cells that usually break a table in markdown are handled for you:
▪ a pipe inside a word is escaped instead of splitting the cell
▪ a line break becomes a tag the renderer understands
▪ trailing spaces are trimmed, empty cells keep their place
Who reaches for a markdown table maker every week:
• engineers documenting an endpoint in a github readme or a readme md file
• writers keeping obsidian notes full of comparison data
• teams filling a readme template before a release
• students turning lecture data into tables in markdown
• anyone who needs markdown for tables and not a whole publishing tool
🔒 Everything is computed in the tab. There is no account, no upload, no analytics call, and no server that could see the numbers you drop in. The generator reads a page only when you press Grab, and only that one time.
What this table markdown generator deliberately leaves alone:
❌ it is not a readme generator — it writes one block, not a whole document
❌ charts and pivots belong to a spreadsheet, not here
❌ nothing is exported to xlsx, and no google sheets to csv round trip is needed on the way in
❌ the file on disk stays untouched; you drop the result where you want it
Questions people ask before installing:
❓ Does it work offline — yes, the whole markdown table creator runs on local code with no network access.
❓ Can it read a table markdown block I wrote last year — yes, paste it and the cells come back.
❓ Does the copied output keep the alignment colons — yes, the generator writes them in both padded and compact shapes.
❓ Will a very wide table survive — the grid scrolls, and 30 columns copy the same way three do.
❓ Is the markdown table format the same as GFM — yes, pipes and dashes, the flavour GitHub documents.
❓ Can I paste into Jira or Confluence — the text goes anywhere; whether that editor renders markdown tables is up to it.
❓ Does the generator change the page I grab data from — no, it reads the markup once.
❓ How do I convert a table to markdown from a website — open the page, press Grab, pick the grid, copy.
💡 A small habit that saves minutes: keep the popup pinned while you draft. Every time numbers show up in chat or in a mail, one paste and one copy give a finished markdown table format instead of counting dashes by hand.
📌 The markdown table generator needs no setup: install it, click the icon, and the grid is already waiting with three columns and two rows.
📍 Install Markdown Table Generator and let the pipes align themselves.
