About Markdown Lens
Markdown Lens turns Markdown files into clean, readable documents the moment you open them, right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded and nothing leaves your computer.
CHOOSE HOW YOUR DOCUMENTS LOOK
• Twenty document themes, each in a light and a dark version, including high-contrast options for easier reading.
• Every highlight.js code colour scheme is included. Search them from the toolbar and preview each one on your own code before you choose.
• Code colours can follow the document theme, use their own light and dark pair, or stay on one favourite. Press D to switch between light and dark at any time.
• Adjust the fonts, text size, line spacing and page width, or add your own
CSS.
FULL MARKDOWN SUPPORT
• Tables, task lists, footnotes and the other common Markdown extensions.
• Mathematical notation, typeset with KaTeX.
• Flowcharts and other diagrams written in Mermaid, coloured to match the current theme.
• Callout boxes for notes, tips and warnings.
• Document metadata at the top of a file is shown as a neat table.
MADE FOR READING
• An outline of the headings that follows your position. Dock it on either side, or switch it off completely.
• A reading-progress bar, a copy button on every code block and optional line numbers.
• A source view that shows the original Markdown with syntax colouring.
• Your place in each document is remembered, and pages print cleanly.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Markdown Lens sends nothing anywhere and downloads no code. Everything it needs is inside the extension. Nothing is collected or transmitted, and there is no account to create.
Editing a file on a local server? It refreshes as you save. Documents on other sites are only re-read when you press Reload.
To read files from your own disk, turn on "Allow access to file URLs" on the extension's details page. Chrome keeps that off until you ask. Prefer not to? Drag a file onto the bundled viewer instead.
