Marginal — AI Email Assistant

Marginal adds a smart writing assistant beside your Gmail compose window. It reads your draft when you pause typing and shows suggestions in a side panel, like notes in the margin of your email. Choose the AI provider, including a fully local one, so you control where your text goes. WHAT IT DOES ✔ Correct Get a quality score for your draft, plus grammar fixes, better word choices, sentence rewrites and tone notes. Apply suggestions one at a time, or use "Fix all grammar" to clean up the whole email in one click. ✔ Polish Rewrite your whole email in the tone you need: Professional, Friendly, Concise, Confident, Formal, Persuasive, Empathetic or Casual. Preview the result first, then click "Replace draft." Changed your mind? Ctrl/⌘+Z in Gmail undoes it. ✔ Stays out of your way The panel opens when you start a compose window and disappears when you close it or send the email. You can turn off "Live check while I type" to analyse your draft only when you ask. FREE TO USE: YOU CHOOSE YOUR AI - Ollama (local): free, with no account, no API key and no usage limits. The model runs on your own computer, so your emails never leave your machine. - Google AI Studio: works with the free tier, no credit card required (daily limits apply). - Hugging Face, OpenRouter, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint: bring your own key. - Backup provider: if your main AI hits a rate limit, runs out of credits or fails, Marginal switches to your backup automatically. Note: Marginal is a bring-your-own-AI tool. Hosted providers set their own limits and pricing, which can change. Only a local model is free regardless. PRIVACY - Your API keys are stored only in the extension's local storage, which Gmail and other websites cannot read. - Your draft text (recipient, subject and body, but not your signature or quoted replies) is sent only to the AI provider you select, and only while a compose window is open. - No Marginal servers, no accounts, no analytics, no ads. Marginal never sells or shares your data. - With Ollama, nothing leaves your computer at all. GETTING STARTED 1. Install Marginal and click its toolbar icon. 2. Pick your AI provider and enter a key (Ollama needs none). 3. Press "Save & test." 4. Open a new email in Gmail and start writing. Ollama setup instructions are in the popup. Larger local models (for example gemma3:12b) give better edits if your computer can handle them.
