About Map Along – See Every Place in a Video on a Map
Watching a video about Ancient Rome, the Silk Road, a road trip through Patagonia or the news from a country you couldn't point to on a map? Map Along puts every place it mentions on a live map, right next to the video, in sync with playback.
Click "Map this video" and Map Along finds the cities, battles, rivers, regions and empires in it. As the video plays, each place lights up the moment it's named and the map flies there, so you always know where the story is.

WHAT YOU GET
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
▸ Synced to playback
Pins drop the moment a place is named. A card shows what it is, its era and a Wikipedia link, and a year badge follows the story, from 331 BC to today.
▸ Click to jump
Every place is listed with its timestamp. Click a pin or a row and the video jumps to the moment it was mentioned.
▸ Routes as they happen
Campaigns, voyages, migrations and trade routes are drawn as arrows from start to end, labelled with who moved and when. Battles get their own markers with both sides and the outcome.
▸ Borders through time
When a video talks about the Byzantine Empire in AD 600, you see the Byzantine Empire in AD 600, not modern Turkey. Empires, kingdoms, modern countries and regions are outlined, matched to the year the story is in.
▸ Videos without captions too
No captions? On a paid plan, Map Along can listen to the video instead and map it (uses one extra credit; you see the cost before anything is charged).
▸ Test yourself (Voyager plan)
• Video quiz: up to ten questions written from the video itself, each with an explanation and a link back to the moment it was covered.
• Blank-map challenge: the labels disappear. Find the video's places on an empty map; the closer your click, the more points.
▸ My videos
Every video you've opened is saved in the toolbar popup, with its places and your best quiz score. Reopen a map or retake a quiz in one click.
▸ Take the map with you
Export any video as a spreadsheet (CSV), for Google Earth and My Maps (KML), or as a map image (PNG). Great for lesson plans, research and trip planning.
Works with history and empires, travel vlogs, geopolitics explainers, documentaries, news reports and podcasts — any video where places matter.

PRIVACY
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Map Along does nothing on a video until you click "Map this video". It doesn't track what you watch, and uses no analytics, ads or trackers. To map a video it sends that video's captions (or, for videos without captions, its public link) to our server, where an AI model finds the places. Map results are shared, so a video mapped once opens instantly for everyone. Full details: https://mapalong.app/privacy
