About Lull - calm dark mode
Lull gives every website the same soft dark theme. It was designed with autistic people and people with ADHD in mind: nothing flashes, nothing glares, and less moves.
WHAT IT DOES
- Dark from the first moment. Pages are dark before they appear, so there is no white flash while they load.
- Soft contrast. Backgrounds are dark grey, not black. Text is off-white, not white. It is clear to read and does not glow.
- Muted colour. Colours keep their hue, so a warning is still reddish and a link is still bluish, but none of them is vivid.
- Calm pictures. Photos are dimmed a little. Pictures that are mostly white, such as diagrams, are dimmed more. Dark logos are flipped so they stay readable. Photos are never turned into negatives.
- The same look everywhere. Every site gets the same background, text and border colours.
- Less movement. Stops style-sheet animations and transitions, pauses video and audio that start by themselves, and freezes or hides GIFs until you ask for them.
- Reading ruler (optional). Shades the page except the lines near the pointer.
- Sites that are already dark are only softened, or left alone if you prefer.
FEW SETTINGS
Three sliders (text brightness, colour strength, picture brightness), three switches and four palettes. One switch turns Lull off for a site, and the page goes back to its own colours without reloading. The shortcut is Alt+Shift+L.
GOOD TO KNOW
- Printing uses the page's original colours.
- If one site looks wrong, open Lull on it, choose More, then Simple invert.
- Hold Alt and click a paused GIF to play it.
- After installing, reload tabs that were already open.
WHAT IT CANNOT DO
- Change the browser's own pages (new tab, settings, the extension store) or its PDF viewer. No extension can.
- Dim background pictures that a site sets in its style sheet.
- Stop animation that a page runs from script.
- Fix text that a site prints on top of a bright photo.
PRIVACY
No account, no analytics, no ads and no remote server. Your settings stay in your browser. Lull asks for access to all sites because it has to restyle whichever site you visit; it reads style sheets and pictures, not what you type.
