About LoopLab – Micro Shadowing for Language Learning
Your ears hear it. Your brain learns it.
LoopLab turns any YouTube video with subtitles into listening practice. Loop the exact line, phrase, or word you could not catch, hear it again and again, and keep the hard moments for review. Built for micro shadowing: practice native speech in small pieces until it becomes clear.
LOOP EXACTLY WHAT YOU MISSED
• Press , (comma) to loop the line playing right now; press again to release
• Click a line's time stamp to loop it, or click a start word and an end word for a phrase loop
• Shift+click two time stamps to loop several lines in a row
• Set A and B by hand (Shift+A / Shift+B) and fine-tune by 0.1 s
• Arrow keys jump to the previous / next subtitle line; . restarts the current line
• Videos open paused, so you decide when to listen
UNDERSTAND EVERY WORD
• Hover a word for its meaning (Wiktionary), including base forms (Abzügen -> Abzug)
• On-device translation of the word and the whole line (Chrome's built-in translator)
• Shift+click a word to pause and hear it read aloud, slowly on a second press
• Built-in hearing tips for frequent German words (how "einem" or "der" really sound)
KEEP AND REVIEW
• Save loops with their subtitle text, star favorites
• Review plays your saved loops one after another, N times each
• Search the video's subtitles, your loops, and your notes
• Library of your study videos; resume where you left off
• Resize the subtitle list and the word card with one divider; works on small laptop screens
• Export subtitles (TXT, SRT, VTT), loops (Anki CSV, Markdown), notes, and a full backup
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your loops, notes, library, and settings stay in your browser. No account. Anonymous usage counts are shared only if you agree, and never include titles, links, subtitles, words, or notes. See the privacy policy for the few lookups that leave your device (word meanings from Wiktionary).
Works on YouTube videos with subtitles (CC) in any language. Word meanings and pronunciation tips are richest for German and English.
