About LingoKeep – Learn Languages on YouTube: Dual Subtitles & Flashcards
🎬 LingoKeep — Learn Spanish, Japanese, French & German from YouTube
Turn the YouTube you already watch into the language practice you never get around to.
LingoKeep puts dual subtitles under the player, makes every word in them clickable, and saves anything you don't know as a flashcard — with the sentence it came from and the exact video moment it was said. Then it schedules those cards for review using FSRS, the same modern spaced-repetition algorithm serious learners use, for free.
Spanish, Japanese, French and German. Interface in English.
📺 WATCH AND UNDERSTAND
• Dual subtitles — the original line and an English translation together under the player. Bilingual, always in sync. The target line is set in a reading serif; the translation sits beneath it in italic, the way a dictionary sets a gloss.
• Works with both YouTube's regular and auto-generated subtitle tracks.
• Playback built for re-listening: replay the current sentence, step back a line, loop a passage, slow it down — without hunting for the scrubber.
• It tells you when the audio isn't actually in the language you're studying. A Spanish-subtitled English video teaches words nobody said.
• Focus mode: one click hides recommendations, comments and end cards, and keeps the video and the title. A second layout puts the panel beside the player so you get the video and the full transcript on one screen.
🔍 LOOK ANYTHING UP, WITHOUT LEAVING THE VIDEO
• A subtitle dictionary: click any word in the subtitles for its entry, in place. No new tab, no copy-paste.
• Drag across several words to select a phrase: you get a translation of the whole expression plus a gloss for every word in it.
• Japanese is properly segmented, so you can click a word in a sentence that has no spaces in it.
• Search the transcript for a word and see every time it's said in that video.
• Word mining, a whole video at a time: the word list pulls out the vocabulary worth learning, filtered by roughly the level you're at, so you can pick them in one pass instead of hunting them one at a time.
🧠 SAVE IT, THEN ACTUALLY REMEMBER IT
• One click turns a word or a sentence into a flashcard. It keeps the subtitle line, the dictionary sense you actually saw, and the timestamp.
• Review with FSRS spaced repetition — included free, not a paid add-on.
• Cards replay their own video clip while you review, so you hear the sentence again in the voice that said it.
• Already use Anki? Send your cards there — a CSV export from your deck, or a one-click push straight into Anki (Pro).
• Reviewing works on your phone through the website, and installs as an app.
• Your deck lives on the web too, so the cards you make on your laptop are there on your other computer.
👤 WHO IT'S FOR
• Anyone learning Spanish, Japanese, French or German who already watches hours of YouTube in it.
• Comprehensible-input and immersion learners who want the words from the videos they watch, not from someone else's list.
• Anki users who are tired of building cards by hand.
• Intermediate learners stuck between beginner courses and native material.
🚀 TRY IT WITHOUT AN ACCOUNT
Everything above works before you sign up. Nothing is emailed to you, and the extension saves your cards on your own machine. Sign in only when you want the same deck on more than one device.
💳 FREE AND PRO
Free: 100 cards, with every study feature above included — dual subtitles, dictionary, phrase selection, word list, focus mode, FSRS review, sync.
Pro removes the card cap and adds Anki export (a CSV from your Cards page, or a one-click push into Anki). $4.99/month, $39/year, or $79 once. There's a 14-day refund on your first payment, no questions asked.
🔒 PRIVACY, IN PLAIN TERMS
• Runs on two sites and no others: youtube.com and lingokeep.com. It never asks for the all-sites permission.
• No analytics of any kind in the extension. No click, keystroke or scroll tracking.
• It does not collect your browsing or watch history, and nothing about a video reaches your account unless you deliberately save a card or star it.
• Turn it off and it stops working — no subtitle fetches, no requests, nothing injected into the page.
• Full policy: https://lingokeep.com/privacy
🆕 WHAT'S NEW IN 1.4.1
• No more dead ends: a video without subtitles in your language now hands you one that has them — and if you haven't picked a language yet, it asks instead of assuming Spanish.
• Picked your language when you signed up on lingokeep.com? The extension now opens on it.
• Empty card and review screens give you a starter video to open in one click.
• Japanese and Chinese subtitle lines now join without stray spaces, so saved cards and example sentences read the way they were spoken.
• A save or sync that fails now stays on screen until you close it, instead of vanishing after five seconds.
• Keyboard and screen-reader fixes across review, the transcript, the word list and the Anki dialog — Space no longer gives away the answer when a button has focus.
• Better contrast in the YouTube panel, the popup and dark-mode dialogs; buttons keep the extension's own font, and scrollbars are easier to grab.
