Leggio

Leggio is a reading companion for language learners. Select a word or phrase on a web page or in a PDF, press one key (by default 'T'), and see what it means in the context of what you're reading. Reading real books and articles is one of the best ways to learn a language. But looking words up breaks the flow, takes time, and often misses the exact meaning. Leggio acts as an unobtrusive companion, showing you the right translation quickly. HOW IT WORKS • Select a word you don't know (double-click it, or drag across a phrase) and press a key (by default 'T'). • A small tooltip opens beside it with the word's meaning in context, and the whole sentence translated with the matching word highlighted. • Press a key (by default 'S') to save the word or phrase to your word list, or just keep reading. WORD LIST • Save words, phrases or whole sentences, each with its meaning and the sentence you found it in. • Browse them by PDF or web page, search them, jump back to where you found a word, and delete one word or a whole book's worth. • Export to CSV for Anki, Excel or Google Sheets. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Leggio translates with the translator built into Chrome, on your computer, so what you read isn't sent anywhere. No account, no ads, no tracking. On web pages, Leggio only reads the text you select, and only when you press its key. Your word list stays on your computer. Prefer DeepL or Google Cloud Translation? Add your own API key in Settings. DeepL's free API plan covers 500,000 characters a month. Needs desktop Chrome 138 or newer.
