The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Kalmdesk
Every new tab is a small moment of choice. Kalmdesk makes it a calm one.
Instead of a grid of shortcuts and clutter, Kalmdesk opens to a quiet, beautifully composed workspace: the time, a daily photograph, your local weather, and a single line worth reading. Everything else — your notes, tasks, focus timer and more — sits one click away, exactly where you left it.
It is the space your brain wishes your browser had.
THE ESSENTIALS
• Clock and greeting — A refined 12- or 24-hour clock with the date and a personal greeting.
• Daily quote — A curated line each day, drawn from a deck that never repeats until it has run its course. Add your own, or press refresh for another.
• Live weather — Current conditions, rain probability, UV index and a three-day forecast for your location, in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
• Web search — Search with Google, DuckDuckGo or Bing straight from the tab, or switch it off entirely for a cleaner view.
FOCUS
• Focus timer — Presets, custom lengths, or a countdown to a specific time of day. Name your session and the countdown appears in the browser tab title, so it stays visible wherever you are working.
• Automatic breaks — Finish a session and a five-minute break begins on its own, then hands you back to work.
• Daily focus count — A quiet tally of the sessions and minutes you have completed today.
• Focus on a task — Press play on any to-do and the timer starts, named after the task.
WORK
• Notes — A clean editor with formatting, headings, lists and links, saved to your device as you type.
• To-do lists — Multiple color-coded lists, drag to reorder, with completion counts.
• Quick links — Your most-used sites, one click away, with automatic icons.
• Tab layouts — Save an entire set of open tabs as a named layout and reopen it later. Ideal for moving between projects, clients or contexts without losing your place.
CALM
• Breathing sessions — Five guided techniques, including 4-7-8, box breathing and triangle breathing, with a paced visual guide and sessions from one to ten minutes.
• Ambient mixer — Layer rainfall, ocean, jungle and nature sounds at individual volumes to build the exact atmosphere you want.
• Focus music — Nine long-form tracks for deep work, from Deep Focus to Ocean Waves.
• Mood tracker — Log how you feel, add a note, and watch patterns emerge across a calendar, chart and insights view.
• Music control — Play and skip Spotify or YouTube Music without leaving the tab.
MAKE IT YOURS
• Backgrounds — A new Bing photograph every day, curated photography, NASA's astronomy picture of the day, or an image of your own.
• Themes — Light, dark, or a custom color of your choosing.
• Choose your widgets — Hide anything you do not use. Kalmdesk should hold only what you want it to.
• Keyboard shortcuts — Reach every tool without touching the mouse.
YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS
No account. No sign-up. No tracking or analytics of any kind. Your notes, tasks and moods are stored on your own device and are never sent anywhere.
Export a complete backup to a file whenever you like, and restore it just as easily. Kalmdesk also keeps a private safety copy inside your browser's own extension storage, so your work survives a cleared cache.
Two things do reach the internet, and only these: your approximate location goes to the weather service to show local conditions, and background images are fetched from their source. Tab access is used for one purpose — saving and reopening your tab layouts. Kalmdesk does not read, record or transmit your browsing history.
Notes, to-dos, the timer, breathing sessions and ambient sound all work without a connection.
FREE, WITHOUT CONDITIONS
Every feature is free. There is no subscription, no premium tier and no paywall waiting a few weeks in. If Kalmdesk earns a place in your day, there is a small link to buy the developer a coffee, and that is the whole of the business model.
WHO IT IS FOR
• Students who want a calm place to begin studying.
• Writers, designers and developers who work in long, uninterrupted sessions.
• Professionals moving between several projects a day.
• Anyone who would like their browser to feel a little quieter.
GETTING STARTED
Install Kalmdesk and open a new tab. That is the entire setup. Every feature is optional, and nothing is in your way.
