About JH A11y tools

JH A11y tools is a technical extension for faster web accessibility reviews by QA, development, and audit teams. It brings together quick checks for key browser-based scenarios: text resizing, text spacing, reflow, mobile viewports, accessible names, interactive target size, focus order, and heading order. The extension does not replace a manual audit or professional judgment, but it reduces repetitive work, makes common issues visible, and lets you inspect a real page with overlays, filters, and list mode without relying on several separate extensions. CORE FEATURES TEXT ONLY ZOOM: Review how a design behaves when text increases without using the browser's global zoom. - HTML 200%: increases the document base size. - Computed x2: doubles computed text sizes. - Computed x2 forced: applies the increase by overriding restrictive styles when the standard mode does not affect every component. TEXT SPACING (WCAG 1.4.12): Applies spacing values to review line-height, letter-spacing, and word-spacing, helping detect overlaps, clipping, and readability issues. REFLOW AND ZOOM (WCAG 1.4.10): Helps test reflow at 200% and 400%, including 1280-width reference scenarios, to locate horizontal overflow and adaptation problems. MOBILE AND TABLET VIEWPORT: Simulates common mobile and tablet sizes in portrait or landscape to review adaptability, orientation, and behavior with an emulated touch pointer. ACCESSIBLE NAMES: Shows the accessible name of interactive elements, classifies its source, and helps detect missing names, weak names, duplicate names, or mismatches between the visual experience and what assistive technologies receive. INTERACTIVE TARGET SIZE (WCAG 2.2): Helps review insufficient interaction areas with real operable-area measurement, not only the visual box. Choose between WCAG 2.5.8 Level AA (24×24 CSS px, including the spacing exception) and WCAG 2.5.5 Level AAA (44×44 CSS px, without the spacing exception). It separates pass, fail, potentially spaced, and potentially exempt elements, and shows dimensions, role, type, context, selector, and diagnostic notes. It includes cases such as clipped active areas, non-rectangular shapes, associated labels, fragmented targets, thin custom scrollbars, and possible overlay layers blocking the operable area. An optional strict policy can count detectable exceptions as forced errors while preserving the original WCAG result. FOCUS ORDER: Numbers the tab sequence and highlights possible focus issues, such as positive tabindex, focus inside hidden content, disabled-looking elements that still receive focus, tiny focus areas, offscreen elements, or elements with no visible box. It can also show arrows indicating the focus sequence. HEADING ORDER: Reviews the H1-H6 and role=heading hierarchy, marks level skips, additional level 1 headings, headings hidden from assistive technologies, and other cases that require manual review. Its compact heading map shows levels, states, and document order, supports collapsible sections, and keeps technical details available on selection. MODAL CONTEXT: Detects the active modal and adapts the Focus order and Heading order scope to its content. When detection is not conclusive, you can confirm or dismiss the context. Focus order observes actual Tab and Shift+Tab navigation, initial focus, and focus restoration on close to distinguish possible focus escapes from confirmed escapes, without replacing manual verification. OVERLAY MODE AND LIST MODE: Accessible names, targets, focus order, and heading order can be reviewed as overlays on the page or as a filterable list. List mode supports result navigation, page selection, element details, selector display, role/type/context, notes, and full paths when relevant. Heading order uses a hierarchical view with expandable and collapsible branches. REVIEW FILTERS: Hide correct elements and filter by category to focus on errors, warnings, hidden elements, exemptions, or cases that require manual verification. PANEL CONFIGURATION: Show or hide action blocks, select the Target Size criterion, and apply a stricter policy to detectable exceptions. Groups are mutually exclusive when their overlays may interfere with each other. PANEL PRESENTATION: Choose how and where to use the tools: in the original popup, in a floating panel that can be moved and resized, or in a side panel docked to the left or right. The extension remembers the selected mode, size, and position. The panel appears over the page without changing its layout. When an action requires native zoom or viewport simulation, you can continue in the original popup to keep the panel at its usual size; this preference can be changed in Settings. INTERFACE LANGUAGE: The popup can be set to automatic, Spanish, or English without changing the browser's global language. USAGE RECOMMENDATIONS - Use it as an audit aid, not as an automatic verdict. - Cross-check relevant findings with DevTools, screen readers, and manual testing. - Manually review items marked as exempt, fragmented, suspected, or potentially blocked. - Pay special attention to custom components, menus, modals, forms, custom scrollbars, and dynamic patterns. PRIVACY AND SECURITY JH A11y tools runs its analysis logic on the client. It does not sell data, does not track user activity, and does not send page content to external servers. It is designed to be lightweight for local, development, QA, and pre-production environments. WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 2.27.6 - HEADING MAP: new compact hierarchical view with H1-H6 levels, status, document order, collapsible branches, and technical details on selection. - PANEL, ZOOM, AND VIEWPORTS: the floating or docked panel can switch to the original popup before applying native zoom or viewports, preventing the panel itself from being enlarged. - REVERSIBLE PREFERENCE: remember the direct switch to the original popup and disable it later in Settings. - CONSISTENT RESULTS: Accessible names, Targets, Focus order, and H…
