About Hootnote
Hootnote is a little notebook in the corner of your browser. When a thought, a to-do or a link comes up while you read, open Hootnote and write it down, like a footnote in the margin. That's where the name comes from: an owl's hoot, plus a footnote.
All the formatting you need. Headings, lists, to-dos, quotes, code and links are all there. Type Markdown and it turns into formatting as you go.
Your notes live in your own Google Drive. Every note is a Markdown file. You can open it or back it up anytime, and if you stop using Hootnote, the files are still yours.
The same notes wherever you open them. Sign in with the same Google account, and your notes follow you to any computer. If you edit a note in two places at once, Hootnote merges the changes without losing either side.
Write without a connection. Notes are saved on your device first and sync automatically when you're back online. When a sync finishes, the owl gives you a wink.
Popup or side panel, your choice. Open it with one click, or keep it in the side panel so you can read and write side by side.
Private by default. We have no servers that store your notes, and we don't track you. Hootnote can only see the files it created.
You can also drag notes to reorder them, search all your notes, and switch to a dark theme.
