The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Hanzen Watch
Hanzen Watch sits next to the video and follows the Chinese captions as you watch. It works on YouTube and on Bilibili, from the same panel. Every line becomes something you can work with.
Watch and listen
- The transcript scrolls with the video. Click any line to jump there.
- Replay a line, slow it to 0.75x or 0.5x, loop it, or pause at the end of every line.
- Shadow mode plays a line slowly, gives you a beat to say it, then plays it again at full speed.
- Hide the text until you are ready to reveal it.
Understand every word
- Tap a word for pinyin, an English gloss, its HSK level, and how many times it shows up in this video.
- Each character breaks into named parts with a one-line mnemonic. Write your own story and it stays with the character.
- Save words you want back later. Mark words you know so they fade back.
- Grammar patterns get spotted on the line and explained with an example. Filter the video to every line that uses a pattern.
Stay active
- Short questions pop up as you watch: fill the gap, what does it mean, which tone, put the words in order, spot the pattern, say it back, which part is inside.
- Answer by tap or with the keys 1 to 4. Rate yourself and the word comes back when it is due.
- A fit bar tells you how much of the video you already know.
Works with
- Any YouTube video with a Chinese caption track, hand made or auto-generated.
- Bilibili donghua and shows with a Chinese subtitle track.
- YouTube videos with only English captions, through YouTube's own machine translation into Chinese, marked as such.
- Simplified Chinese, with Traditional tracks read as a fallback.
Private by design
Your study data stays on your device. There is no account, no sign up, and no analytics. Your settings, saved words, and stories live in the extension's own storage. The extension fetches the captions you are watching, and nothing about you goes anywhere. See the privacy policy for the full account.
Free while in beta
Hanzen Watch is free while it is in beta, and every feature is unlocked for everyone. You get the transcript, all player controls, pinyin and translation, word cards with breakdowns, grammar notes, saved word review across videos, the pattern filter, the ink theme, the fullscreen caption strip, and unlimited questions and shadow runs. No account, no key, no payment.
