About Halo Glow
Halo Glow lights the YouTube watch page with a soft glow in the colours of the video you are watching.
The glow sits behind the player, so only the part outside the video shows, and a slow shimmer of light moves across it.
What it does:
- The glow follows the video as it plays, and the colours drift instead of jumping.
- It follows the player into theater mode and back.
- It stops while the video is paused, while the tab is hidden and in fullscreen, so it costs nothing when you are not watching.
- On the light theme the glow is weaker, so it never looks like a smudge.
- The shimmer stops when your system asks for reduced motion.
The toolbar popup has two switches: one for the glow and one for the shimmer.
YouTube's own Ambient mode is hidden while the glow is on, so the two never draw in the same place.
Light on your computer:
The video is drawn into a 32 by 18 pixel canvas about 6 times a second, and the browser stretches and blurs it on the graphics card.
Private by design:
Halo Glow has no account, no server and no analytics.
It sends nothing anywhere and reads nothing from your YouTube account.
Its only permission is storage, to remember the two switches.
Halo Glow is not made by, or affiliated with, YouTube or Google.
