The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About GTM Enhancer
GTM Enhancer improves the day-to-day experience of Google Tag Manager and Tag Assistant.
Your Google Tag Manager, without the friction.
GTM Enhancer is the UI layer Google forgot to ship: 20+ enhancements that turn Tag Manager and Tag Assistant into the tool you always wanted. One install, zero configuration, everything toggleable.
🔎 FIND IT, THEN HAND IT OVER
• Cmd+K opens one palette over tags, triggers and variables - type, hit Enter, the entity opens, whichever section you were in
• Notes are editable now: write, save or delete one straight from the list, without opening the entity
• A "Used in" column on variables counts what references each one, and marks with a red bin the ones nothing references
• Export documentation writes the whole container to a Markdown file - every tag with its type, folder, triggers and note, every variable with everywhere it is used, and a Loose ends section for what dangles
⚡ STOP SCROLLING, START SEEING
• Full-width workspace - the 1440px cap is gone, your tags finally breathe
• Every trigger and variable wears its official GTM icon, right in the list
• Each tag type carries the same icon Tag Manager uses in its own picker, so the right tag jumps out of a long list
• The full side menu, always visible. No more "Show more"
📝 THE DETAILS THAT SAVE YOUR DAY
• Notes at a glance - an amber icon marks every tag, trigger or variable that carries a note. Click, read, done. No more opening ten tags to find the documentation you wrote
• A live Container Overview card: size gauge with the 70%/90% thresholds, bytes used of the 200 KB limit, published version with name, description and author, tag/trigger/variable counts - refreshed on its own after every publish
• Copy the container ID in one click
✏️ EDIT AT THE SPEED OF THOUGHT
• Quick edit - a green pencil on every {{variable}} field jumps straight into that variable's editor. In the same tab. Without losing your unsaved work
• The ⓘ next to a variable opens it already in edit mode
• Sort Google tag parameters A→Z or Z→A in one click
• Hide paused tags, hide active tags - or both
• Every single enhancement has its own on/off switch in the popup
• Shift+click to select whole ranges of rows
🔍 TAG ASSISTANT, UPGRADED
• Consent state always in sight - one card per consent type, Default → Update at a glance
• Filter fired and not-fired tags by type
• JSON values re-indented and syntax-highlighted instead of one endless line
• Pin any dataLayer parameter under each event name
🛒 CHECKOUT EVENTS YOU CAN ACTUALLY DEBUG
• On Shopify stores, checkout events pushed inside the pixel sandbox are bridged into the page dataLayer, so Tag Assistant finally sees them
• Bring your own container to the checkout: paste the GTM snippet your account gives you and Chrome runs it as a user script on every checkout of that store - with a guided setup that fills everything in for you
• Every line of code ships inside the package: no remote scripts, no generated loaders - the only snippet that runs is the one you paste and approve
🔒 PRIVACY, FOR REAL
No data collected. Ever. No analytics, no tracking, no external calls. Your settings live in your own Chrome sync storage. Free and open source.
Install it, open a container, and watch Tag Manager become the tool it should have been all along.
