About GitHub Rich Diff
GitHub Rich Diff adds a compact composition preview beside the diff summary on GitHub pull requests. See how changed lines are distributed before opening individual files.
• Compare code, tests, documentation, configuration, generated files, and other changes.
• Group changes by file type or directory.
• Expand rows to inspect filenames, additions, deletions, and each group's share of the changes.
• Explore larger groups with Show more and Show less controls.
• Use light or dark appearance and keyboard controls.
Public repositories work without a token. For private repositories, connect a fine-grained GitHub personal access token in the extension settings. Select the repositories you need and grant read-only Pull requests access; GitHub also requires read-only Metadata access. Organization rules may limit access. One token covers one resource owner.
The extension loads data when you open the preview and checks for changes when you reopen or refresh it. It does not poll in the background. Requests with more than 3,000 changed files are not supported.
Your token is sent only to GitHub and is saved encrypted in your Chrome profile. The encryption key is stored in that same profile. The connection persists across restarts; use Disconnect in settings to remove it. File metadata is kept in a bounded browser-session cache. No analytics, advertising, or developer-operated data service is used.
Permissions: Storage saves preferences and session preview data. Access to github.com places the preview on pull-request pages, including pages reached through GitHub navigation. Access to api.github.com retrieves pull-request data and validates an optional token.
This is a composition summary, not a line-by-line patch viewer or a review-comment tool. It works on github.com and does not support self-hosted GitHub Enterprise sites. This independent extension is not affiliated with GitHub.
